Description

M. J. HORSWILL ELECTRIC WATER HEATER Flled March 5 1923 Jain. 26 ,.1926.
ATTORNEY,
BY @IMQ Patented Jan. 26, 192255e UNITED MILTON J. HonswILL, or OAAKLAND, canrnonnra, Assrenon fro ANNA B. DONAHOO, or anali/inne, CALIFORNIA.
ELECTRIC VTATER HEATER.
Application filed. March 5, 1923,
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, MILTON J. IfIonswILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Tater Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved electric water heater.
@ne of the objects of my invention is to provide a heater which is detachably mounted upon the faucet, and may be readily attached 0r removed therefrom.
Gthcr objects of my invention are to provide aheater which is simple in construction, efticient in operation, and inexpensive to manufacture.
In the drawing in which my invention is illustrated z Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view of my electric heater.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on 'the line QQ of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral l indicates a housing which is closed at the ends by caps 2 and 3 which are formed of an insulatmg mate i..` Spaced between the caps 2 and 3 is an outer conducting core lf and an inner conducting core 5, which are preferably formed of carbon. The core 5 is positioned within the core L and is spaced therefrom to form an annular water passage 6. rilhe cap 3 has an annular intake chamber 7 which communicatcs with the passage 6, and the cap 2 has an annular outlet chamber 8 also communicating with said passage. A terminal 9 extends through the cap 2 and is secured to the core 4t, and a terminal l0 extends through both caps 2 and 3 and through the core thus binding the said caps and core together.
An outlet pipe 1l extends into the annular chamber 8 through the cap 2 and an intake pipe l2 extends into the chamber 7 through the cap 3. A faucet coupling sleeve 13 is adapted to lit over a faucet la and is preferably molded of some yieldable material so that it will grip the faucet and yet may be easily removed therefrom.
The water enters my heater through the pipe l2 kand chamber 7. It rises through Serial No. 622,810.
the annular passage G where it forms contact between the cores l and 5 and is heated. Aritter it is heated the water flows out of the pipe l1.
Having described my invention, I cla-ini:
l. fin electric heater comprising a conducting core, a second conducting core, said second core being spaced from said first core to forni an annular water passage through which the water is adapted to iiow, a cap at both ends of said cores, said caps having annular chambers therein communicating with said water passage, an inlet pipe extending into one of said annular chambers, and an outlet pipe extending into the other annular chamber, an electric terminal connected to one core and a second electric terminal connected to the other core, said second terminal being a` post extending through one of the cores and both caps.
2. An electric heater comprising a conducting core, a second conducting core, said second core being spaced from said first core to form an annular water passage through which the water is adapted to flow, a cap at both ends of said cores, said caps having annular chambers therein communieating with said water passage, an inlet pipe extending' into one of said annular chambers, andan outlet pipe extending into the other annular chamber, and a faucet coupling sleeve secured to said inlet pipe, electric terminals connected to the cores, one of said terminals being a post extending through the inner core and both of the caps.
3. fin electric heater comprising a circular core, a hollow tubular core surrounding and spaced from said firstl core to form an annular water passage, through which the water is atapted to flow, a cap at bot-h ends of said cores, each cap having an annular chamber conununicating with said water passage, a terminal passing through both caps and a bore extending through the inner core and having .means thereon to hold said caps on said cores, an inlet pipe extendii'ig into one of said annular chambers, an outlet pipe extending into the other annular chamber and a faucet coupling sleeve sccured to said inlet pipe.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MILTON J. HORSIVILL.
