of which the following. is .'a specification.

This invention relates to improvements 7 in railway trackage, and has for oneyof its objects to improve and strengthen the rail supports, to enable them "to ,withstand the increased weight of the present; day ,locomotives and other rollingsto'ck.

Located beneath the ties 10 is a supporting member or rail'12 of any suitable form, for

instance, of old worn out or discarded rail-'1 way rails, as shown.

Bearing upon each pair ofthe ties 10 adjacent each of the load bearing rails 11,

is a bridging plate 13, each plate having a spur 14 at the end to be driven into the tie.

One face of each spur is directed at right angles to the lower face of the plate 13,

while the other face is directed at-an acute anglethereto as shown in'Figures 4: and 5,

In railway trackage, a pair of ties arranged as a cooperative unit to support rails, a bridging plate adapted to be carried by said ties having rail holding means, clamping means arranged exteriorly of and extending between said ties from top to bottom thereof and bearing upon the bottom faeesof said ties and operative to unite the plate and ties.

6. In railway trackage, a pair of ties arranged as a cooperative unit to support rails, a bridging plate having rail holding means, tie penetrating means carried by 7 said plate, and clamping means arranged exteriorly of and extending between the ties from top to bottom thereof and operative to unitethe plate and ties.

7. In railway traekage, a pair-of ties arranged as a cooperative unit to support rails, a bridging plate extending over the top surface of said ties with rail holding means, tie penetrating means carried by said plate, a bridging plate'e'xtendi'ng'over the bottom surface of said ties with rail I holding means, tie penetrating means car- '-ranged' as a cooperative unit, means for supporting said unit, bridging plates having means for holdlng "said unit supporting nreans,'-ra1'ls supported by saidunit, bridging plates having rail'holdi'ng means,= and clamping means operative to unite said plates and ties.

10. A bridging plate for the purpose described formed with a boss intermediate the ends, and having rail holding lips extendlng laterallyand vertically from the thickened portion thereof.

11. A bridging plate for the purpose described formed with a boss intermediate the ends with a bolt aperture through the thickened portion thereof, and rail holding lips extending laterally and vertically from the thickened portion of same.

12. A bridging plate for the purpose described, tie penetrating means depending from said plate,-and'-rail holding lips extending laterally and vertically from said plate. 7
