IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification fornlirg part of Letters Patent No. 157,006, dated November 17, 1874; application tiled July 6, 1874A To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, AUGUST IHRINGER, of Calvert, in the county of Robertson and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, 1n which- Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan view.
The invention relates to means whereby the beam of a plow may be elevated or depressed at the front end according to the depth to which it is intended that the plow shall run, and held securely atseveral points ot' adjustment.
These means will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the beam, B the standard, and
4 C C the handles. The standard B has at the upper end a tenon that plays loosely in a longer mortise of the beam, and is held therein and thereto by the pivoted straps D D. E is a pawl that is. pvoted to standard B, embraces that and the beam, has a cross-bar catch, e, and two pendent arms, e e. Acrossbolt, F, passes through the end of these arms, holds the catch e of the pawl to any point of adjustment on the ratchet G, and is itself prevented from Working out by a pin, H.
By this means the beam is caused to vibrate on the top of' standard, to be placed at different angles thereto, and to occupy several relative positions. Thus the depth to which it is desired to run the plow can always be regulated with great accuracy, an adjustment made with but little trouble, and the Whole held rigidly in place.
I am aware that a plow-beam has been passed through the standard, and a yoke placed below its heel-bolt; but this construetion weakens the beam and renders the plow liable to choke and Wear very rapidly. I am also aware that a ratchet has been let into the bottom of beam, and a wedge placed on top to hold a yoke into the ratchet; but the former weakens the beam, while the latter is liable to slip; hence The combination of beam A, pivoted standard B, let thereinto, pivoted yoke or straps l) D, superposed ratchet G, and pawl E, having arms e e', all constructed and applied together as and for the purpose specified.
