J. E. ERIKSEN AUTOMATIC PISTOL Patented Jan. 19, i926.
JOHAN EMIL ERIKSEN, OF OSLO, 1\TORWA'Y.
AUTOMATIC PISTOL.
Application led May 11, 1925. Serial No. 29,464.
To all 'whom t may concern:
' Be it known that I, JOHAN EMIL ERIKSEN, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Oslo, in the Kingdom of Norway, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automatic Pistols, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in automatic fire arms and more particularly to automatic pistols and it hasfor its object toprovide a piston wherein the force of the recoil after each shot reloads the pistol from the magazine. A further object is to provide an automatic pistol that is simple in construction and arrangement of parts,'reliable and accurate in use and cheap to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in View the invention consists in the combination and varrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed ut in the appended claims and illustrated in the accom-` part of this panying drawing which forms a application and in which- Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view through the pistol on line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 isa sectional view taken on 2 2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but with the relatively movable parts in an altered position. v 4 4 t Fig. 4 is a view of the pistol in front elevation. 1
Like reference characters denote correline sponding arts throughout the several views. Y
, the hollow handle grip having the extension 4 pivotally supported upon the pin 5 carried in the ears 6 of the grip 3, said extenf sion 4 being formed with the lateral guides 7 that extend into lthe handle gri through elongated slots 8 in the front wa l thereof; a U-shaped cooking lever having its base 9 secured to the upper end of the extension 4 and 4its sides 10 extending through slots 11 in the handle grip, one end of a. leafv spring l2 restinnr against said base 9 and the o posite end of said spring bearing against t e handle gri ,said spring being secured by pin 13 to the andle-grip-extenslon, said spring 12 serving yieldingly to force the upper end of the extension 4 away from the handle gri lithin the handle grip 1s the magazine 14,- open at its upper end, the bottom 15 extending through a perforation 16 in said grip and having an lntegrallip 17 that ex-v tends beyond the front wall of the grip to'` permit manual removal of the `magazine when desired. The magazine is oblong in cross section and is retained in-position within the handle grip by the end 18 of the spring 19 that extends through the said perfora-f tion 16, said spring being supported by the bar 20 that extends transversely of the hand grip and 1s secured to the sidewalls thereof.
Within the magazine is the ejector. spring 21 to the upper. end of which is the follower bar 22 uppn which the cartridges 23 are disposed. pon pivot bolts 23a carried in the side walls of the handle grip the angular levers 24 are fulcrumed, said levers being breech block being provided with the guide pin 27 that connects the firing-pin-barrel 28,l
provided with the firing pin.28, andthe lock 29 provided with a spring finger 30 that extends beyond Vthe forward end of the breech block for engagement with the ange of the cartridge shell to support/the same after discharge of the cartrid e until the next cartridge to be fired comes orcibly into contact with the dead shell ing the same out throughI the per oration in thetop wall of the barrel extension.
Each lever 24 is provided with a stub pin 31 adapted for releasable engagement by a notched portion 32 in each side 10 of the aforesaid U-shaped cooking lever, said sides 10 having their free ends 33 beveledfor engagement with the bar 20, that serves as a release bar, whereby said sides are raised outl of engagement with the pins 31. One lever 24 is rovided with a stub pin 34 against which) the recessed portion of -a link 35 bears that connects the triggerv 36 to the.
scar 37 pivoted uponl pin 38 secured inthe side walls of the handle grip, said Sear being yieldingly retained by means of the tensio'n spring 39 carried by the handle grip, in engagement with one of the teeth 40, 41 of the rack 42 formed upon the hammer 43 arranged in the handle grip casing upon the pin 44, saidratchet 42 carryin a pin 45 whereupon a link 46 is secured t at extends through a perforation 47 in the upper end recipitatof the casing 48 and through the center of a coil spring 49 that abuts the upper end of the said casing and a plunger 50, carried by said link 46. A pin 51 in the lower open end of the casing being engaged by the notched portions 52 of the `short ends 53 of the said angular levers 24. A trigger guard 54 connects the barrel l and the the handle grip;
To set or cock the hammer when it is 1n the osition shown in Fig. 1 the extension 4, of the handle grip, is pushedinwardly thus causing the sides 10 of the cooking lever to move the levers 24, through the medium of the pins 31, breech. block 25 and hammer 43 to cocked position. When the sides 10 encounter the bar 20 they are released from the pins 31. The rack 42 moves with the hammer until the tooth 41 is engaged by the sear 37. This action also causes the lever arms53 to depress the spring casing 48 while the link 46 raises the plunger 501 and compresses the spring 49 between said plunger and the top 'of the spring casing.
The follower bar 22 has now advanced a cartridge to firing position. To discharge the cartridge the trigger 36 is pressed inwardly thus, through the medium of the link 35, disengaging the Sear 37 from the rack.
The spring 49 will now bring the hammer forcibly forward advancing the breech block and causing the firing pin to discharge the cartridge. The re-coil will reset ythe ham- -mer and other co-operating elements and the gun can be ired repeatedly.
