Patented Nov. 17, 1874.
No.156,968.v
THEGRAPHIO C0. PkDTD-LITHjQflkI PARK PLAC UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADELAIDE BAKER, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN OYSTER-SALVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 1 56,968, dated November 17, 1874 application filed September 15, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Mrs. ADELAIDE BAKER, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented an Oyster-Salver, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to salvers for serving oysters on the half-shell. The objects of the invention are to afford increased convenience in the serving of the oyster, to avoid soiling of the fingers by the handling of the shell when taking the oyster from the salver, or of replacing the shell on the latter, and to prevent the fouling of one oyster by the shell of another; likewise, to prevent theloss of the liquor of the oyster. The invention consists in a combination of a plate-dike carrier, havin g apertures or seats in it, extending through the sides or edges of the carrier, and detachable holders resting within said seats, and projeetin g beyond the edges ot'the carrier through the openings in the sides of it, said holders serving to contain the article being served.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan of an oyster-salver constructed in accordance with my invention, andFig. 2 a partially sectional elevation of the same.
A is the carrier, of plate-like form, carried by a base, B, which has an upwardly-projecting stem or handle, (J, the whole so far resembling an ordinary caster. This carrier A is perforated or recessed to form seats for deto return the shell to the salver without the fingers coming in contact with the shell.
When the oysters in their half-shells rest within the seats in the carrier the fouling of any one oyster by the shell of another isavoided. and the liquor of the oyster is prevented from spilling.
The salver or the carrier A is turned about orrevolved like any ordinary caster, when necessary in the use of it.
y I claim The combination of the carrier A, constructed as described, and the removable holders 1), resting within said carrier, and projecting laterally beyond the edges thereofto form handles, substantially as specified.
ADELAIDE BAKER. Witnesses:
MICHAEL} RYAN,
BENJ. W. HOFFMAN.
