Be it known that I, JorrN W. Banani, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ludington, county of Mason, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Toy Buildings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in knock-down toy buildings.

The main objects of'this invention are:

`First, to provide an improved knockdown toy building which may be formed of thin material such as veneer, binders board or the like and at the same time is stron and rigid when assembled.

Second, to provide an improved knockdown toy building of the class described which can be quickly set up or knocked down without the aid of tools. l

Objects pertaining to details and econo mies of my improvements will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in' the claims.

A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forminga part of this application, in which:

Fig. I is a perspective view of my improved knock-down toy building with a portion of the roof broken away.

Fig. II is a vertical section on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Fig. I.

Fig. III is a perspective view of the parts disassembled, one of the transverse partitions, a duplicate of the one shown, being omitted.

Similar numerals of reference .indicate similar parts in all of the views.

Referring to the drawing, my toy building comprises a base designated generally by the numeral l and consisting of a rectangular' frame 2 having a thin panel 3 of veneer, binders board or the like secured thereto. The end pieces of the base frame are provided with slots 4 constituting hand holds. The end walls 5 have upwardly tapered top edges with notches 6 at the apex. These end walls are duplicates.

In the structure illustrated the end walls consist of the thin panels 7 -having channeled bottom strips 8 secured to their lower edges. On these channeled bottom strips are headed pins 9 adapted to engage with the ansversely disposed key-hole slots 1() in the The longitudinal partition wall designated generally by the numeral 11 is disposed between the end walls to .engage notches 12 in the bottom strips 8 thereof, the longitudinal partition Wall thus consti# tuting a lockingl means for the end walls. The longitudinal partitid wall has pins 13 on its bottom strip 8 enga ing the holes 14C in the base.

The transverse partitions designated generally by the numerals 15 are formed of panels 16 and have bottom strips 17 secured to their lower edges'. These bottom strips have pins 19 thereon engaging holes 20 in the base. The inner edges of the transverse partition engage the notches 21 in the bottom strip of the longitudinal partition. These transverse partitions support thev longitudinal partition in upright position.

The ceiling member 22 comprises a rectangular frame 23fhaving a panel 24 secured to the bottom thereof thus providing a receptacle. This ceiling member is arranged upon the partitions and is further supported by the blocks 25 on the end walls. The transverse partition4 members have pins 26 engaging the ceiling member thereby supporting the upper ends of the transverse partition members.

To prevent the ceiling member sliding on the blocks the end walls are provided with positioning members 27 engaging notches 28 in the ceiling member. The end members are tied tovether by the roof supporting rod 29 whic is notched at 30 to engage the notches 6 of the end walls. The hooks 8l on the end Walls engage the screw eyes 32 on the rod thereby detachably securing the rod to the end walls. The roof members 33 are formed of thin panels having channeled reinforcing strips 34 secured to their outer edges and are hinged tothe rod by means of the loop hinges 35. Thus arranged the roof members can be raised to afford access to the ceiling member which constitutes areceptacle for toys. The partition walls have door openings 36 therein, the edges of which are reinforced by the channel strips 37.

Vith the parts thus arranged they may be formed, as stated, of thin material such as veneer, binders board or the like and at the same time the structure when assembled is strong and rigid.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a toy of the class described, the combination of a base comprising a rectangular frame and a panel secured on the top thereof, end walls having upwardly tapered upper edges with notches in the apex thereof and longitudinal and transverse partition walls, said walls comprising panels having channeled bottom strips embracing the lower edges thereof, said partition Walls having door openings therein with channeled strips embracing the edges thereof, thcl bottom strips of the end walls being notched to receive thc ends of the long'- tudinal partition wall and the bottom strips of the longitudinal partition wall being notched to receive the ends of the transverse `partition walls, a ceiling member disposed between said end walls above said artitions Aand comprising a rectangular rame having a panel secured to the bottom thereof providing a receptacle, said end walls having supporting blocks for said ceiling member and centrally disposed positioning blocks engaging the top of said ceiling member, said ceiling member being notchedto receive said positioning blocks, downwardly projecting base engaging pins on said walls, the pins on said end walls being headed, said base having key-hole slots therein coacting with said headed pins, said longitudinal partition wall constituting locking means for said end walls, said transverse partition walls having pins engaging said ceiling member, a roof` comprising a center rod notched to engage said notches in said end walls and constituting a tie member therefor and roof members comprising panels hinged to said rod and having channel strips on their outer edges, and eoaeting hooks and eyes on said rod and end walls whereby the roof is detachably secured in position.

2. In a toy of the class described, the combination of a base, end walls having upwardly tapered upper edges with notches .in the apex thereof and longitudinal and transverse partition walls, a ceiling member disposed between said end walls above said partitions, said end walls having supporting blocks for said ceiling member and centrally disposed positioning blocks engaging the top of said ceiling member, said ceiling member being notched to receive said positioning blocks, downwardly projecting base engaging pins on said walls, the pinson said end walls being headed, said base having key-hole slots therein eoaeting with said headed pins, said longitudinal partition wall constituting locking means for said 'end walls, said transverse partition Walls having pins engaging saidceilinir member, a roof comprising a center ro( notched to engage said notches in said end walls and constituting a tie member therefor and roof members hinged to said rod, and eoaeting hooks and' eyes on said rod and end walls whereby the roof is detachably secured in position.

3. In a toy of the class described, the combination of a` base, end walls having upwardly tapered upper edges with notches in the apex thereof and a longitudinal partition wall, a ceiling member disposed between said end walls above said partitions, said end walls having supporting blocks for said ceiling member, downwardly projecting base engaging pins on said walls, the pins on said end walls being headed, said base having key-hole slots therein coacting with said headed pins, said longitudinal partition wall constituting locking means for said end walls, a roof comprising a center rod notched to engage said notches in said end Walls and constitutinga tie member therefor and roof members hinged to said rod, and eoaeting hooks and eyes on said rod and end walls whereby the roof is detachably secured in position.

In a toy of the class described, the combination of a base, end walls and longitudinal and transverse partition walls, said walls comprising panels having bottom strips secured to the lower edges thereof, the bottom strips of the end walls being notched to receive the ends of the longitudinal partition wall and the bottom strips of the longitudinal partition wall being notched to receive the ends of the transverse partition walls, a ceiling member disposed between said end walls above said partitions and comprising a rectangular frame having a panel secured to the bottom thereof providing a receptacle, said end walls having supporting blocks for said ceiling member and centrally disposed .positioning blocks vengaging the top of said ceiling member,

said ceiling member being notched to receive said positioning blocks, pins on said walls engaging said base, the pins on said end walls being headed, said base having key-hole slots therein eoaeting with said headed pins, said longitudinal partition `wall constituting locking means for said end walls, said transverse partition walls having pins engaging said ceiling member, a roof comprising a center rod engaging said end walls and constituting a tie member therefor and roof members hinged to said i'od, and means for detachably securing said rod to said end walls.

5.In a toy of the class described, the combination of a base, end walls and longitudinal and transverse pgrtition walls, a ceiling member disposed tween ysaid end walls above said partitions, said end'walls constitutin having supporting blocks for said ceiling member and centrally disposed positioning blocks engaging the to of said ceiling member, said ceiling member being notched to receive said positioning blocks, pins on said walls enga ing said base, the pins on said end walls eing headed, said base havine' key-hole slots therein coacting with sai headed pins, said longitudinal partition wall constituting locking means for said end Walls, said transverse partition Walls having pins engaging said ceiling member, a roof comprising a center rod engaging said end walls and constituting a tie member therefor and roof members hinged to said rod, and means for detachably securing said rod to said end walls.

In -a toy of the class described, the combination of a base, end Walls and a longitudinal partition wall, a ceiling member disposed between said end walls above said partitions, said ends walls having supporting blocks for said ceiling member and centrally disposed positioning blocks engaging the top of said ceiling member, said ceiling member being notched to receive said positioning blocks, ins on said walls engaging said base, the pms on said end walls being headed, said base having key-hole slots therein coacting with said headed pins, said longitudinal partition wall constituting locking means for said end walls, a roof comprisin a center rod engaging said end walls-an a tie member therefor and roof members hinged to said rod, and meansfor detachab-ly securing said rod to said end Walls. l

7. In a toy of the class described, the combination of a base, end walls and a 1ongitudinal partition wall, a ceiling member disposed between said endwalls above said partitions, said end walls having supporting blocks for said ceilin member, pins on said walls engaUing said ase, the pins on said end walls tbeing headed, said base havin key-hole slots therein coacting with sai headed pins, said longitudinal partition Wall constituting locking means for said end walls, a roof comprising a center rod engaging said end walls and constituting a tie member therefor and roof members hinged to said rod, and means for detachably securing said rod to said end Walls.

In a toy of the class described, the combination of a base provided with transversely disposed key-hole slots adjacent the ends thereof, end walls havin headed pins engaging said slots, a longitu inal partition wall provided with base engaging pins, said end walls and longitudinal partition wall having co-engaging parts whereby the longitudinal partition member constitutes means for locking said headed studs in said slots, a ceiling member disposed between said end walls above said longitudinal partition member, said end Walls being provided with supports for said ceiling member, a roof comprising a center rod engaging said end Walls and constitutiner a tie member therefor, and roof'members hinged to said rod.

10. In a toy of the class described, the combination of a base provided with transversely disposed key-hole slots adjacent the ends thereof, end walls having headed pins engaging said slots, a longitudinal partition wall provided with base engaging pins, said end walls and longitudinal partition wall having co-engaging parts whereby the lon gitudinal 'partition member constitutes means for locking said headed studs in sald slots, a ceiling member disposed between said end walls above said longitudinal artition member, said end walls being provided with su ports for said ceiling member, and a detac able roof engaging said end walls and constitutin a tie member therefor.
