To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK J. VARNUSKA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan. in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy House, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys, and it pertains more particularly to a toy in the form of a building adapted to be knocked down and reconstructed.

It is one of the objects of the invention to provide a toy building which can readily be assembled and disassembled.

It is a further object of the invention t0 provide doors and windows for the toy house of such a character that they may be placed upon any side of the house. I

It is a further object of the invention to construct the side walls of the house in such a manner that the doors and windows may be positioned in any of the sides and the side walls completed therearound.

It is a further-object of the invention to paint the material forming the side walls of diiferent colors on their opposite sides in order that a completed house of one color or another mav be formed.

It is a still further object of the invention to provide a roof and to construct the building in such a manner that it is square, thus adapting the roof to use in -any position on the house as desired.

and the mannerin which the corner posts and stringers are connected together;

Fig. 12 is a detail view of the several forms ofsiding or side boards used. Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 15 designates a base which may be formed of wood or other suitable material. The base 15 is provided with a plurality of recesses 16 extending around the same near the edge thereof, said recesses being arranged in predetermined spaced relation one to the other. The reference character 17 designates vertical corner posts and each of said vertical corner posts is provided with a reduced extension 18 adapted to be received in the corner recesses 16 of the base 15. These vertical corner posts 17 are preferably rectangular in form and are provided on two of their adjacent faces with grooves or the like 19. These corner posts 17 are further provided in their upper ends with recesses 20 and a portion of the wall separating the recesses 20 and each'of the grooves 19, is cut out as indicated by. the reference character 21. In the form of the house shown there are four of these corner posts 17 used, and they are so positioned that their grooved faces will be in alinement with the several recesses 16 in the base 15..

Connecting the upper ends of the vertical corner posts 17 are stringers 22, and said stringers 22 are provided with hooked metallic members 23 adapted to be received-with in the slots 21 and the recesses 20 of the vertical corner posts 17.

The reference character 24 designates door sections, and 25 designates window sections, and each of these door and window sections is constructed in the form of a frame, the door section 24 being provided with reduced portions similar to the reduced portions 18 of the corner posts and adapted to be received within certain of the recesses 16 in the base 15. The window sections are rectangular, the ,outer edges of which are grooved as indicated by the reference character 26 in Fig. 9, and said window sections are adapted to be positioned in the walls of the house in a manner to be hereinafter more ed of sections of boards of various lengths,

the d Sections of siding 37 are employed to close the space between the horizontal stringers 22 and the ridge of the roof, as more clearly shown inFig. 1, and said sections 37 are secured in posit-ion by means of pins 38 carried thereby adapted to be received in recesses 39 suitably positioned in the horizontal stringers 22.

v The house or building is assembled in the following manner: The base is first positioned, after which the vertical corner posts 17 are secured in the corner recesses 16 of said base. After this has been accomplished, the sections 30 of siding are positioned in the grooves 19 of the corner posts and the window and

24 and 25, respectively,are positioned in any desired arrangement, the various lengths of siding sections 30 permitting of this various positioning of oors and windows bein carried out. After the several door and window sections have been positioned, as desired, the longitudinal stringers 22 heretofore mentioned engage in the recesses 20 and slots 21 in the upper end of the vertical corner posts 17. After this has been done, the sections 37 a are positioned inthe manner heretofore described, and the roof placed upon the house, thus presenting a complete structure. I

From the foregoing it is apparent that th present invention provides a toy house which may be readily assembled and knocked down, andthat owing to the peculiar construction of the members which form the side walls of the house, which permits of the placement at will of the door and Window sections, an unlimited range of house design is had.

In carrying out the invention the several side members 30 are painted upon one of their sides in one color and upon their other side in a different color. By means of this construction, it is apparent that houses of different colors may be constructed by a mere reversal of the side members 30. s

From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and novel'form of toy, the use of which is very entertaining and provides an instructive pastime owing to the variations which may i be resorted to in the construction of a house with the several elements disclosed herein.

I claim:

1. A toy building comprising a base, vertical posts carried by said base, side walls for the building formed of side members of various lengths, door and window sections adapted to be positioned in the side walls of the building, stringers'connecting the upper ends of the vertical posts of the building and a roof for said building, said roof comprising two members hingedly secured together on their inner face, 'and a ridge pole rigidly carried by said members and overlapping the joint between said members, substantiallyas described.

2. A toy building comprising a base, a plurality of vertical posts adapted to be adjustably secured with respect to said base, side walls formed of individual board sections adapted for interengagement with the posts, stringers connecting the upper ends of the posts and forming a portion of the side walls of the building, and a roof comprising hinged sections adapted to be supported by the side walls of the building, substantially as described.
