LAST.
Application iled'A-prl 28, 1924.
To. Zi iai-2mm .ff/fz? may .comer/1i:
Be it know-n that I, Geom-1n Grassina, 'a'ctizen of the United "States, resid-ing at ltortsinouth, in the county of Scioto `and State 'oilE hio, 'have inventedI certain new and useffnilf Improvements in Last-s, ol which the ilolloivingfis a speci-cation, reference beingr had' vtherein to the accompany- Iingodravuvinc".
My invention lrelates to lasts and particularly to collapsible lasts.
The object of my invention is to provide a collapsible last which ivilfl be so a ranged that Iits movement Jfrom one position to the other Wilfll be resisted yieldingly. It is a tui ther object of my invention to provide a yielding Amea-ns and a link in connection with last yhalves of compressible material, said yieldingmea-ns lbeing located below the center of movement about which said last halves 74Vmove. j f Referring to the drawings:
Figure l is a section through the last in 'expanded position.
Figurer 2 is a similar view showing,` the last parts lin collapsed position.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the connecting` mechanism connecting the last halves to one another.,
lteterring to the drawings'in detail:
il. is thetoe part of the last having' a cutaway portion 2 to receive the connecting; parte. The` toe part of the last is provided with a substantially vertical upper rear face 3, the lower end of which terminates .in a transversely disposed, semicircular de pression 4;, the lower end of Which is converted into asnbstantially vertical face 5. The rear or heel part of the last 6 has a corresponding' lower vertical' `forward face 7, a projecting semicircular shoulder 8, and a rearwardly and upwardly extending front tace 9. This arrangement permits of the collapsing` oi the last halves. The semicircular projection S describes an arc oi' a circle greater than 180 degrees accord ing to the preferable method of my construction.
lO designates substantially the center about which the last parts move. A pin. ll is transversely mounted in the toe part of the last and the pin l2 is similarly mounted in the heel part oi the last. Such pins transverse the cutaway portions it and 13 in the ,me Mid ,heel portiere of the lest.-
Seral No. 799,476.
Located in such outa-Way portions is an arclrshaped link lll, the extreme ends ol. which are mounted upon the pins il and l2 and the 'lower ends of which, below the points of connection on. the pins il and 'l2 terminate in the'hoo'ks 15 and i6 on which are mounted the helical spring l? Vwhich is adapted to resist the moe-.rement of the lla-st Vparts from Vone position to the other.
It ivilil be Inoted thatthe distance between the centers of the pins il andl l2 will vary as these parts are moved to the respective positions. The spring resists this move ment and the compressible character oi' the materiali in the lasts `permits of some `accommodation of this dead center l0.
It will be understood that I desire to comprehend Within my invention such modifications as may be necessary to adapt it to varying conditions.
Having thus fully described my inven tion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a last, atoe-part and a heel part adaptedV to rock about a common center, an extensible l-ink joining` said last parts and a yielding means connected to the ends of said link for resisting the movements of its ends and the ymovement of the last parts.
2. In a last, a toe part, a heel part, a transverse, semicircular projecting shoulder on one part and a corresponding` con- @cavity on the other part for receiving,` said shoulder, a link connecting said parts, either end off which is mounted on a transverse pin inthe respective last parts, transverse pins, and a yieldingmeans connected to free ends of said link. j
3. In a last, a toe part, a heel part, a transverse, semicircular projecting shoulder on one part and a corresponding conmovement over the cavity on the other part for receiving said shoulder, a link connecting said parts, either end of which is mounted on a. transverse pin in the respective last parts, transverse pins, and a yielding means connected to free ends of said link, said yielding means being located below said pins.
In a last, a toe part, a heel part, a transverse, semicircular projecting shoulder on one part and a corresponding concavity on the .other part for receiving said shoulder, a link connecting said parts, either end of which is mounted on a transverse pin in the respective last parts, transverse pins, and a yielding means connected to free ends of said link, said pins being located in such position that a line drawn through their centers will pass over the center of movement of the last parts when they are moved from one position to the other.
In a last, a tce part, a heel part, a transverse, semicircular projecting shoulder on one part and a corresponding concavity on the other part for receiving said shoulder, a link connecting said parts, either end of which is mounted on a transverse pin in the respective last parts, transverse pins, and a yielding means connected to free ends of said link, said pins being located in such position that a line drawn through their centers will pass over the center oit' movement of the last parts when they are moved from one position to the other, said last parts being composed of compressible material.
6. In a last, a toe part, a heel part, a transverse, semicircular projecting shoulder on one part and a corresponding concavity on the other part 'for receiving said shoulder, a link connecting said parts, either end of which is mounted on a transverse pin in the respective last parts, transverse pins, and a yielding means connected to free ends of said link, said pins being located in such position that a linedrawn through their centers will pass over the center of movement of the last parts when they are moved from one position to the other, said last parts being composed ot' compressible material, and yielding means being located to one side ot' the line joining the centers of the pins.
7. In a last, a toe part, a heel part, means on said parts whereby they will pivot on each other, will be permitted to collapse, but will be limited in their movement in either collapsed or expanded position, said parts moving about a predetermined center, an"
arch-shaped link mounted on transverse pins in the respective last parts, transverse pins, laterally projecting ends on said links for ari-ying a spring, and a spring mounted on said link ends.
8. In a last, a toe part, a heel part, means on said parts whereby they will pivot on each other, will be permitted to collapse, but will be limited in their movement in ither collapsed or expanded position, said parts moving about a predetermined center, an arch-shaped link mounted on transverse pins in the respective last parts, transverse pins, laterally projecting ends on said links for carrying a spring, and a spring mounted on said link ends, said last parts being composed of compressible material.
9. In a last, a toe part, a heel part, means on said parts whereby they will pivot on each other, will be permitted to collapse, but will be limited in their movement in either collapsed or expanded position, said parts moving about a predetermined center, an arch-shaped link mounted on transverse pins in the respective last parts, transverse pins, laterally projecting ends on said links for carrying a spring, and a spring mounted on said link ends, said last parts being composed o compressible material, and said pins being located so that a line drawn between their centers will be below said central pivotal point when the last is expanded, and above said point when the last is collapsed.
l0. In a last, a toe part, a heel part, means on said parts whereby they will pivot on each other, will be permitted to collapse, but will be limited in their movement in either collapsed or expanded position, said parts moving about a predetermined center, an arch-shaped link mounted on transverse pins in the respective last parts, transverse pins, laterally projecting ends on said links for carrying a spring, and a spring mounted on said link ends, said last parts being composed ot compressible material, and said pins being located so that a line drawn between their centers will be below said central pivotal point when the last is expanded, and above said point when the last is collapsed, and said spring mounted on the lateral projections located below said line and always below said pivotal point.
In testimony whereof, I aliix my signature.
