HENRY COLLIER SMITH, OF ST. MARYS, OHIO, ASSId-NOR TO THE QUICKWORK COM- PANY, OF ST. MARYS, OI- IIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
I RIBBING AND PERFORATING MACHINE.
4 Application filed May 16, 1924. Serial No. 713,722.
To all whom it may concern. 7 A rib 5'is forced up between the rows of Be it known that I,- HENRY COLLIER perforations and edge flanges 6 may be bent SMITH, a, citizen of the United States, and before or during the perforating and ribbing residing at St. Marys, in the county of Auoperation. 5 glaize and State of Ohio, have invented a new The machine for producing these perforaand Improved Ribbing and Perforating Mations and ribs isshown to comprise a bed chine, of which the following is a specifica- 8 in which a shaft 9 is journaled in any detion. sired manner and this shaft carries a pulley This invention relates to the construction 10 anda spur pinion 11. A pair of pedestals.
10 of rolls'for perforating and ribbing sheets carry'bear'ings for the roll'shafts 12 and 13 v of metal and other comparatively non-resiliwhich are'connectedby the gears 14 and ent material, and its object is to provide rolls A large gear 16 on the shaft 13 meshes with of this character with readily removable the pinion 11. Any other desired m perforating and ribbing dies which maybe may be employed for supporting and drivremoved and replaced at little expense in mg the shafts 12 and'13. A cross frame 17 labor and material. I carries the guide plates 19 and 20 shown in This invention consists in a pair of rolls F igw n Whic th he ts of me l having circumferential and longitudinal are slid to the rolls andthese plates prevent grooves, rings of perforating dies seated in thesesheets from twisting and buckling.
20 the circumferential grooves and ribbing dies On the shafts 12 and 13 are secured the seated in the longitudinal grooves, the perrolls 21 and 22 which are formed with c1rforating dies having extensions projecting cumferentlal grooves 23 and longitudinal beneath the ribbing dies so as to be held in g ooves 4. These rolls may be lnterposition thereby. I D changed, but I have shown the square-topped It further consists of rolls of this characdies 25 mounted in the grooves in the upper ter having longitudinal grooves which are roll and the sharptoothed dies 26 1n the of dove-tail cross section, ribbing dies fitting gr ves 111 the 10W el roll.
