Application filed my 9,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS A. MACKLAN- BURG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma City, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash Plugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the-art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This inventionrelates to plugs for window-sash, and more particularly to an improved plug adapted to be attached to the inner face of the bead separating the two sash of the ordinary window adjacent the up er rail of the lower sash.
e invention consists in the novel con-' struction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
One sheet of drawings accompanies this specification as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate similar parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved plug as it may be manufactured to market;
Fig. 2 is a erspective view of the improved plug s aped for use;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the plug applied, part of the sash being broken away;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal cross sectional view taklen through the upper rail of the lower sas In accordance with the present invention suitable stri s 1 of sheet metal of a generally rectangu ar form are provided upon one face with a block 4 of felt, fibre, or the like. The end edges of the metal strip 1 may be up-turned slightly as at 2-2, and the strip is so proportioned with respect to the felt block 4 as to leave its ends exposed, which will be provided with suitable holes 3 through which the attaching nails or screws may be driven.
PATENT O/FFICE.
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA.
PLUG.
1923. Serial No. 637,881.
The plugs may, of course, be manufactured in strips or in individual units as illustrated, and the felt plugs may be of rectangular form as illustrated in Figure 1', or they may be preliminarily shaped with a convex upper face 5, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
Where the plug is provided with the felt in rectangular form, the artisan applying it will be expected to shave the felt block to a convex form as illustrated in Fig. 2 preliminary to applying the device.
The plug is applied by flexing the metal backing 1 toward the felt part 4 as illustrated in-Fig. 3, so that the convex face 5 of the felt part assumes a straight line, thus compressing the felt intermediate the head 7 of the window jamb and the metal backing 1 of the plug, leavin the metal backing ex posed to furnish a siding contact with the rail of the sash.
In practice the plugs will be made of a length slightly greater than the width of the up or rail of the sash, and positioned interme iate the rail and the bead with the sash in its lowered or closed position.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to. secure by Letters Patent of the United States is,-
1. An article of manufacture comprising a piece of flat flexible sheet metal of substantially rectangular form having a block of felt secured to one face, this felt having its outer face of convex form tapering toward the ends of the metal strip.
2. In association with window sash and frame, a plug comprising a flexible sheet metal part aflixed to felt having a convex outer metal part, said back flexed toward the felt until the outer convexed face of the felt coincides with the surface of the art of the frame against which it is app 'ed, the said metal part constituting a convex slide surface for the sash.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
LOUIS A.
