IMPROVEMENT IN COVERINGS FOR STEAM BOILERS, PIPES, &o.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,71 l, dated November 10, 1874 application filed January 10, 1,873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TRUMAN MERRIAM, of the city and county of Milwaukee, in the State of `Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Ooverin gs for Steam Boilers and Pipes, or anything Where it is desirable to prevent the radiation of heat; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a sectional view of my invention. Fig. 2 is an end View.
Letter A represents the iron or article to be covered. Letter C represents the cord or rope Wound spirally around the iron. Letter H is the cord Wound straight around the iron. Letter S is the space or dead-air chamber. Letter P is the paperwhich rests on the cord. Letter F is the hair felt. Letter T is the masticrubber covering for the hair felt. Letter D is the clay cement.
To form a dead-air chamber I Wind a cord or small rope spirally or straight about the boiler or pipe, Svc. On the cord I lay tarred roofing-paper, or any substantial paper.
