PACKING BOX FOR PULP AND PA PER BEATERS.
I Application filed ,Iebrun 5, 1925. .Serial no. 75329.
Hamilton, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, has inventedcertainnew and useful Improvements ,in Packing Boxes for Pulp and Paper Beaters, of which .the following is a specification. I l
This invention agelates to new and useful improvements in packing boxes especially adapted for pulpandpaper heaters, and has for oneof its principal objects ,to serve :as support and ineans of .adj.ustment for the shaft of thefloe'ater. Anotherobjechis to ,provide a device to re lieve shocks and strainston the beater shaft. A still further objee'tof the invention is to provide a packing boxtofgthe above mentioned character, which. ,is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong, .durable and further well gadapt ed for the purposes for which :it is designed.
With these and other objectsin view, my invention consists in the novel features ,of construction, combination and arrangement of parts; as will be hereinafter*referredto and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims. In the accompanying drawings, forming a part ofthis application,
Figure 1 is ,a side view of the invention applied to a beater; Y Figure 2 isian enlarged side elevationof the device;
Figure 3 is a vertical 3-4-3 of Fig. 2; s Figure 1 is a horizontal section taken ,on the line 14 of Fig. 2; I
section on the line Figure, is .a detail :view of the split basev plate holding the packing ring;
Figure 6 are details of the split inner and outer housing rings; a
Figure 7 is a detail of the separated; and
Figure 8 is a detail section showing the adjustable attaching means for one end of the vertical coil springs.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the several views, 1 represents the beater which has a conventional hood 2 covering the main portion of the beater. The packing box 3is fastened to gland ring the side of the beater by means of two verti cal plates 4 which are boltedv to the side of the beater, as shown at 5. The heater shaft 6 is disposed centrally through the packing boxwhichisvadapted to move up and down and sideways according to the ,motion of the shaft. hen the beater is filled, .the shaft motion varies and my packing box is adapted for adjustment of such motion. The packing box has two rectangular base plates 7 and 8 whichmove .vertically in the inner grooves 9 of the plates 4:. There is sufiicientspace between the sides of these platesand the grooves for lateral movement, due to the movement of thebcater h Th s pla are split centra y vertically at-1O and'have circular openings 11 ,and 12 for the'disposition of the heater shaft. j
H The outer plate 8 has the larger circular opening 12 to form .an annular groove '12 to hold a packing ring ll which is seated onaone side against plat-e8 ;and.on the other side by an inner housing ring 15. This ring is centrally split, as shown at 16. A11 outer housing ring 17 ,is .providefd which fits snugly against the outer circumference of the housing-ring 15. This outer ,ring 17 is also centrallysplit as shown at 18.
A centrally split gland ring 19 ifits over the housing rings .15 and 17 and has six flanges as shown at 20. These flangeshave apertures 21 through which extend bolts 22. The inner ends of ,these bolts 22arccountersunk in the base plate 7 and fasten ,the two.
base'platcs. The outer end of the bolts 22 have, nuts 23:.W'l1l0l1 holdin position coil springs 24. There are aseries of bolts 25 fastening the gland ring to the inner hous inga'ing 15.
On the top andbottom of the plates at are fastening hooks 26 to hold the ends of the spiral springs 2''? which are fastened to the base plate by hooks 28.
On the inner sides of the plates 4 are fastened angle plates 29 holding adjustable screw hooks 30 to which are fastened vertical coil springs 31 which fasten to bolts 22.
The set ofcoiled springs on the upper and lower sides of the base plate together with the two vertical coiled springs make provision for the vertical and horizontal ad- 1 be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention.
lVhile I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a packing box apparatus for beater shafts, a pair of parallel guide plates permanently secured in position, a packing element slidably mounted between said guide plates comprising a plurality of superimposed plates and rings, and spring means between said guide plates and packing element to yieldingly retain the latter in position, as and for the purposes described.
2. In a packing box apparatus for beater shafts, a pair of parallel guide plates, a packing element slidably mounted between said guide plates, said packing element comprising a plurality of superimposed plates and rings, and a plurality of adjustable coil springs connecting the packing element with said guide plates yieldingly retaining said packing element in position, as and for the purposes described.
3. In a packing box apparatus for beater shafts, a pair of parallel guide plates permanently secured in position, a packing element comprising a pair of base plates having enlarged and registering central openings therein for the reception of the beater shaft therethrough, housing rings applied to said base plate, a gland ring superposed upon said housing rings, the base plates of said packing element being slidably mounted between said guide plates, and spring means between said packing element and said guide plates to yieldingly retain the former in position within the latter.
at. In a packing box apparatus for beater shafts, a pair of parallel guide plates permanently secured in position, a packing element comprising a pair of base plates having enlarged and registering central openings therein for the reception of the beater shaft therethrough, housing rings applied to said base plate, a gland ring superposed upon said housing rings, the base plates of said packing element being slidably mounted between said guide plates, coil springs between the ends of said base plates and said guide plates, and additional coil springs between said guide plates and said gland ring, as and for the purposes described.
5. In a packing box apparatus for beater shafts, a pair of parallel guide plates permanently secured in position, a packing element comprising a pair of superposed and split base plates provided with registering central openings adapted to receive the beater shaft therethrough, the opening of one of said plates being of greater diameter than the other, a packing ring disposed within the periphery of the base plate having the larger opening therein, a pair of inner and outer housing rings applied to the last mentioned base plate and packing ring, a gland ring superposed upon said housing rings, and means for securing said base plates and rings together, said base plates being slidably disposed between said guide plates, and spring means between said guide plates and said packing element to yieldingly retain the latter in position, as and for the purposes described.
6. In a packing box apparatus for beater shafts, a pair of parallel guide plates permanently secured in position, a packing element comprising a pair of superposed and split-base plates provided with registering central openings adapted to receive the beater shaft therethrough, the opening of one of said plates being of greater diameter than the other, a packing ring disposed within the periphery of the base plate having the larger opening therein, a pair of inner and outer housing rings applied to the last mentioned base plate and packing ring, a gland ring superposed upon said housing rings, pairs of coil springs between the ends of said guide plates and base plates, and additional coil springs between said guide plates and said gland ring, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
