H.- FASSBENDER BOX LIFTER Filed March 16, 1925 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Hemy 5536M WITNESS:
ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
UNITED STATES HENRY FASSBENDER, OF COUNCIL, IDAHO.
BOX LIFTER.
Application filed March 16, 1925. Serial No. 15,991.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY FASSBENDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Council, in the county of Adams and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Box Lifters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lifters and has for an object the provision of a novel form and arrangement of engaging members, a plurality of supporting members, whereby the lifter may be folded and stored for convenience and conservation of space.
Another object of the invention is the simplicity of construction, and the novel operation of the device When used for the above purpose.
A further object and advantage of the invention resides in the fact that the goods so lifted may not be released until the latter is set down.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 isa side elevation of the invention about to be applied to a box.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the invention applied and in position ready for use.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the invention showing the construction thereof.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective of the linking hinge.
Figure 5 is a perspective of one of the wooden arms.
Figure 6 is a perspective of one of the hooking elements.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character A indicates a box or other ob ect to be lifted. The reference character 10 indicates the handle portion of the box lifter having its ends beveled as at 2 1, a linking hinge 13 secured to the upper portion of the handle 10 by suitable fastening elements 18 through openings 19, hinges 15 pivotally secured to the ends of the linking hinge 13, arms 11 secured to the hinges 15 through suitable openings 17 and having correspondingly beveled ends 23 whereby a greater radius of swing is obtained to facilitate the picking up of smaller objects other than boxes or the like. Hook arms 21 suitably secured to the undersides of the arms 11 through the openings 22 by suitable fastening elements 18; the lower portion of the hook arms 21 are offset at right angles to the body portion thereof and terminating with inwardly and upwardly inclined hooks 16, the hooks 16 are suitably sharpened or pointed to engage an object and prevent" accidental disengagement therefrom.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings, that the invention provides an exceedingly useful device for lifting boxes or the like, as a workman will not have to stoop over and get his fingers beneath a box, it also eliminates undue back strain in lifting while bending over. With the use of these lifters a box may be carried by both hands when using two of the lifters. In addition no lugs, fasteners or the like are necessary upon the object. to be lifted as the sharpened or pointed hooks engage into the walls of the box or the like. The invention is equally effective as a storage battery lifter as the hooks 16 can be placed under the handles of the battery.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A lifter of the character described comprising a linking hinge having a straight bar and hinged portions connected to its respective ends, arms secured to the undersides of the straight bar and hinged portions respectively, said arms having their adjacent ends beveled, and hook arms secured to the undersides of the outer arms and terminating in offset inwardly and upwardly inclined sharpened hooks.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HENRY FASSBEN DER.
