Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT oF cE,
FRANK L. WOOD, OF LYNDEN, WASHINGTON.
, ROLLER-SHADEFASTENING DEVIGEV 1 Application filed December 17, 1924. Serial m5. 756,577. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. WVoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynden, in the county of Whatcom and- State of Washington, have invented a new of the upper end of a shade with my im- 1 provement in place, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a spring shade roller with my improved shade fastened in place thereon.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout. Certain parts are broken away for lack of space.
More particularly: Near the upper end a of shade 3 is fastened one end of fabric fastening strip 4 by attaching said strip end transversally across the shade at 5 by stitching, as indicated, or in any other desired and satisfactory manner, thus providing bifurcated ends a and 4.
To fasten shade 3 on wooden, spring shade roller 6 said roller is placed between the bifurcated upper ends of the shade and said ends are closely wrapped around the roller and overlapped at 7, and then said overlapped ends of shade 3 and fastening strip 4 are fastened to each other and to roller 6 by tacks, the heads of which are shown at 8.
When the shade is thus fastened to the roller it can never be unwound farther than 5 from which line the strain on the shade is divided between the ends a and 4, anda' force suflicient to tear loos'ethe illustrated fastening would be more than enough to tear the shade apart transversally.
When fastened as described the mount d shade operates as usual. That is, the short shaft'9 is, held from turning in the shade bracket by its flattened end while pawls 10,
which are pivoted on the end of the ro1ler 6 allow the roller to revolve in one direction on the shaft but prevent its revolution in the other direction while they are engaged, and the spring within the roller, not shown, which reacts between said shaft and roller,
acts torevolve said roller against said pawl control, as is well known.
Havingthus disclosed my invention, what I I claim as new and desire tosecure .by Letters Patent is,
V 1. In combination, a roller shade the inner end of which'is adapted for fastening to onev side ofa shade roller, and a strip of fabric one edge of which is fastened to said inner end of said shade transversally therewith and proximate thereto adapted for fastening to the other side of said shade roller and to gether with said inner shade end .embrace said shade roller and the junction of said strip and said shade adapted to roll up on said shade roller without folding either said shade or said strip. 1 a
I 2. In combination, a shade roller, a roller shade the inner end of which is fastened to 7 one side of said roller, and a strip of fabric the inner edge of which is fastened transversally to the said inner end of said shade with said inner edge thereof proximateto said inner-shade end the other edge of which is fastenedto the other side of said roller and together with said'inner shade end embrace said roller and the junction of said shade and said strip adapted to be rolled up on said roller without folding.
