SIPHON FLUSH BOX.

Be it'known that I, GEORGE AzoNn, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, county ot Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Siphon Flush Box, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in siphon Hush tanks tor water closets and `the like, wherein water from the reservoir or tank is discharged into the water closet through a siphon having a double free end, and means to force an auxiliary jet of water into one of said free ends of the Vsiphon pipe, thereby inducing a siphon flow in both ot thel free ends.
"Myinvention relates to a new and usei'ul siphon flush box wherein the water in the reservoir may he discharged into the water closet rapidly with the aid ot an auxiliary stream or jet of water set into action by any suitable valve, operated by any convenient push button or pull chain such as are used on the ordinary type ot flush tanks, and whereby moreover `the amount of water nec'- essary to start the siphon is greatly reduced, thereby reducing also the time required to actuate the auxiliary valve.

With'the above'ends in view my invention consistsgot a water supply tank, a discharge siphon with the same in an upright position, having its drawing or gravity endy passing through the bottom ot said supply tank, thc free. end of said siphon having a somewhat narrower branch extending from it at an angle, a water supply pipe leading into said tank and having thereon a oat operated supply valve of the usual construction, as well as a manually operable auxiliary valve, actuating means for said auxiliary valve, a nozzle juxtaposed to the open end of the inclined branch pipe of said siphon and in alignment therewith, and a pipe connection from said auxiliary valve to said nozzle.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings forms thereof which are at present preferred by me, since they will give in prac'- tice satisfactory and reliable results, although itis to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described,

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a, water reservoir of the usual construction, having the side walls2 and 3, the bottom i and the lid 5. The water supply pipe G of the usual construction, passes througl'i the bottom of the tank at 7 and has secured to it, the retillvalve 8, controlled by the tloat 9, through the pivotally mounted arm 10 of the usual construction. The relie-f pipe 11, also ot the usual construction, interconnects saidV valve 8 with the discharge or gravity end 12 ot the siphon 13. The dis-` charge'endf12 passes throughfthe bottom t oi the tank 1 and is secured thereto in the usual manner as shown at 14. The siphon. extends upward and is bent hackupon itself, at substantially an angle oit 18() degrees, above the normal level ot the water when thc tank is filled. The free end 15 of the fsaid 90 siphon '13 then extends down a substantial distance into the water. In order to permit the proper positioning of the top of the bend 16, which is the high point of the siphon, with respect to the level 17 of the water, 95 the bend 16, well as the free ends 15 and 19, of the siphon are connected to the upright discharge or gravity end 12 of the siphon, by means of the adjustable slide joint 18.
The -'ree end 15 ot' the siphon 13 is pro- 100 vided with a branch pipe 19 of a smaller diameter than the main pipe 15 and at an acute angle thereto, as shown particularly in Figure 1. The purpose of the inclined branch pipe oi the tree end of the siphon, is to induce a flow ot water within the main pipe 15 of the siphon. This is accomplished by means of the nozzle 20, on the end of the auxiliary water supply pipe 21 connected to the valve 22, which nozzle is in alignment with the end of the inclined branch pipe 19, and positioned from the open end thereof a 2 Y 1\5e3,94e
` pipe 19, but from the main pipe ot the tree end or the siphon as Well.
The action of the nozzle 2O is best .seen in Figure 2. Due to the construction of the end ot the nozzle 20, the auxiliary jet oi' Water is reduced in diaineten'with' a corresponding increase in the velocity of the water. This narrow jet of Water of high velocity, enters the open end oi the inclined branch pipe 19, but since it in itself is not sufficient to lill the pipe, it draws in with it a certain amount ot' added Water from the tank, which surrounds the end of the pipe 19 and the nozzle 20, and imparts to said Water as well, a certain velocity. Due to the relatively high velocity of the Water Within the ipe 19, the same raises the level of the Water in the bend at 28, until such Water flows over the bend into the gravity end 12 of the Siphon. Having thus once started the action of the siphon, the auxiliary Iiet of Water through the nozzle 20, is discontinued and the Water siphons out through both the pipes 15 and 19, as Will be seen from Figure 1.
The supply pipe 6, connected to the refill valve 8, also communicates with the auxiliary valve 22, shown in detail in Figures 3 and 4l, Which valve may be of any suitable construction, such as the spring pressed valve disc, as shown. The discharge end of said valve 22 may be connected through an adjustable sliding coupling 24, with a pipe 21 and the nozzle 20. The stem 25 of the valve 22, carrying the valve disc 26, extends out through the front Wall of the tank,fand
carries at the outer' end thereof, a push button, through Which it may be actuated. Thus when it is desired to flush the closet, the button is pressed thereby displacing the valve disc 24, from the valve seat 2, against the ytension of the spring 28, as Well as .against the pressure of the Water supply,
thus causing the Water to How through the pipe 21 and through the nozzle 20.
It will now be apparent that I havev devised a novel and useful siphon flush box, whichy embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and While I have, in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereor which Will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that such embodiment is susceptible of moditication in various particulars Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is n 1. In a flush tank, a siphon having a gravity limb, and an open ended limb with two branches at an acute angle to each other, a nozzle in proximity to and in operative alignment with the inclined branch of said free end of the siphon, and means to discharge a jet votwvater through said nozzle into said inclined branch. y
