- This invention relates to an improved reservoir valve and the principalobject of the invention is to provide an improved valve of the float type so constructed that the valve will float while the reservoir is emptying thus preventing the valve from closing before the desired amount of water has passed out of the reservoir.

To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, CLAnnNon Gr. PLUMB, a
, citizen of the United States, residing at Lorain, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F1ush-Valves,.of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved reservoir valve and the principalobject of the invention is to provide an improved valve of the float type so constructed that the valve will float while the reservoir is emptying thus preventing the valve from closing before the desired amount of water has passed out of the reservoir.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved type of guide for slidably mounting the valve, the guide being carried by the couplings which pass through the bottom of the reservoir.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this guide that the upper portion will form a cup limiting the upward movement of the valve and having a refill pipe extending into its upper end so that water may flow through the cup and into the tubular body portion of the valve through which it passes into the coupling with which the pipe leading to the bowl is connected.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the improved valve in side elevation,

The tubular body portion 10 which forms a conduit carries a float 11 at its base, the float having its lower end portion formed into a valve 12 whichseats upon the valve seat 13 of the coupling l i when the device is in the closed position. A ring having openings 15 formed therein is placed at the bottom of the conduit 10 and carries a bridge 16 having a bearing formed therein through which the guide rod 17 passes. This guide rod 17 is carried by the bridge 18 in the coupling 14 and extends vertically through the conduit 10 with its upper end connected with the base of the cup 19 into which the refill pipe 20 extends. A head or collar 21 is carried by the conduit 10 and is provided with guide fingers 22 which engage the sides of the cup and thus prevent the conduit from moving transversely during its sliding movement. A flange 23 is provided at the upper end of the cup 19 thus limiting the upward movement of the conduit 10 when the conduit is raised by means of the draw rod 24, the eye of which is positioned about the conduit beneath the abutment collar 25.
lVhen in use, the coupling 14 is passed through an opening in the bottom of the reservoir tank and the coupling is secured in place by means of the securing ring 26 screwed upon the coupling. The pipe leading to the bowl will be connected with the coupling so that when the draw rod 241 is drawn upwardly, the valvewill be raised and the water will flow through the coupling into the supply pipe. When this valve is raised, the float 11 will carry it upwardly and it will be suspended in the water until the reservoir tank is emptied or nearly emptied at which time the valve will be again seated upon the valve seat 13 and the tank will refill. During the refilling of the reservoir tank, a portion of the water will pass through the pipe 20 into the cup 19 and will flow through the openings 27 thereof into the body portion or conduit 10 of the valve through which it will flow into the coupling 14 and into the supply pipe thus replenishing the water in. the bowl. If the water in the reservoir tank rises above a desired level, the surplus water will flow into the body portion or conduit 10 of the valve and down into the supply pipe. It will thus be seen that the conduit 10 not only forms a bod portion for the valve but also forms a spil way so that surplus water in the reservoir tank can escape.
What i claimed is 1. A reservoir valve comprising a hollow coupling having a. bridge extending therethrough, and having its upper end portion ,cut to provide a valve seat, a guiding rod carried by said bridge and extending above the coupler, a cup carried by said guiding rod and provided with outlet openings ad a-- cent its lower end, a tube slidably mounted upon said rod and extending above the lower end of said cup, a float connected with the lower portion of the tube and positioned about the same and having its lower portion forming a valve head seated upon the valve seat of said coupler when the tube moves downwardly, means for engaging the tube to 2. A reservoir tank valve comprising a coupler constituting a valve seat, a guiding rod extendlng above sald coupler, a valve comprising an open ended tubular body slid ably mounted upon said guide rod, a float positioned about the lower portion of said body and having a valve head at its lower end for seating upon the valve seat of said coupler, said guiding rod being provided at its upper end with a cup extending above the upper end of said tube and having openings in its lower portion, a refill pipe extending into said cup, and means for drawing said tubular body upwardly.
3. A reservoir valve comprising a coupling constituting a valve seat, a valve comprising a tubular body open at its lower end, a float carried by said tubular body and provided with a valve head for seating upon the valve seat of said coupler, guiding means for the tubular body including a cup provided with means for admitting fluid within the tubular body, and means for moving the tubular body upwardly to unseat the valve.

A reservoir valve comprising a hollow valve seat, a valve comprising a tubular body, a float carried by the body and provided with a valve head for seating upon the valve seat, and guiding means for the tubular'body constituting means for admitting fluid into the tubular body through the upper portion thereof. a a I 5. A reservoir. valvecomprising a hollow coupling having a valve seat at its upper end, a guiding rod extending above the coupler, a cup carried by said guiding rod and provided with outlet openings adjacent its lower end, a tube slidably mounted upon said rod and extending above the lower end of said cup, a-float connected with the lower portion of the tube and having a valve head at its lower end seated upon the valve seat of said coupler when the tube moves down-- wardly, and means for engaging the tube to move thesame upwardly.
