Be it known that I, I'IARRY F. ROLLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California. have invented a certain new and useful Valve and Cap Apparatus,
of which the following is a specification.
'My invention relatesto a valve and cap apparatus,more particularly to an apparatus for-holding the valve of a pneumatic tube open as desired to permitthe air to pass out and the like, andtheobjectsof my invention are: first, to provide an apparatus of this class which-will hold the valve open for emptying a tube thus providing a time saving apparatus; second, to provide an apparatus of this class which may be readily applied; third, to provide an apparatus of this class which is positive and efficient in its action; fourth, to provide an apparatus of this class which is made a part of a valve and cap of the pneumatic tube now in use; fifth, to provide a novelly constructed valve and cap apparatus, and sixth, to provide an apparatusof this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy toinstall and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
lVith these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims reference being had .to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional elevational view through the middle of the conventional valve stem with the valve and cap in position for use; Fig. 2 is another sectional and eleva-- tional view through the middle of the valve stem and valve, and showing the cap reversed and in position to hold the valve open; Fig. 3 is a sectional and elevational view through 33 of Fig. 2;Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary side view of the cap and valve showing the special features of each; Fig. 5 is an end view taken at 5-5 of Fig. 4; and Fig. 6 is an end view taken at 66 of Fig. 4.

The valve casing 1, retainer plug 2, valve seat member 3, valve member 4, valve stem "the internal threads 1 engage similar lugs 8* on the reduced 5, springseat 6, spring 7 and cap 8 constitute the principal parts and portions of my structure.
Thevalve casing 1 is of the conventional type secured to the neumatic tube. The
plug 2 is provided Wlth external threads 2 which engage and are held in position by of the valve casing 1. Mounted concentrically and reciprocably at the inner end of the retainer plug 2 is the valve seat 3. Said valve seat is provided with a packing 3 to prevent air or other fluids passing by the valve seat. valve f is secured to the valve stem 5 which is reciprocably i nounted on and guided by the retainer plug-2 and the spring seat 6 and is retained in position therein by the flattened portions 5? and 5 thereon. The valve member 4 is held in engagement with the valve seat 3 by the spring 7 which is interposed between and held in position by the shoulder 4 of the valve member 4 and the spring seat 6 which spring seat bears against the shoulders l of the valve casing 1. The retainer plug 2 is provided The with two oppositely disposed L-shaped lugs 2 facing in opposite directions adapted to or tion 2 of the cap 8. It will be noted that the engaging surfaces of the L-shaped lugs 2 are beveled at 2 as shown to provide for their interlocking. The slot 8 of the cap 8 is adapted to receive the lug 2 of the retainer plug 2 and serves as a wrench to tighten or release said retainer plug. A recess 8 is provided in the cap 8 to make clearance for the portion 5 of a valve stem that extends beyond the valve casing.
It is obvious that by reversing the cap 8 in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings and permitting the L-shaped lug 8 of said cap to engage the lugs 2" of the retainer plug 2, the valve stem 5 is forced inwardly against the compression of the spring 7. Since the valve member 4 is secured to the valve stem 5, it is obvious that the said valve is disengaged from its seat 3 permitting the gases or fluids to escape by the valve.
It is further obvious that since the spring 7 is under compression the valve stem 5 is forced against the cap 8 thus keeping said cap in engagement with the retainer plug 2 by the L-shaped lugs 8 and 2 respectively and that they interlock by reason of the beveled portions 2.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions 1 do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
I*Ia"-ving thus described my invention what I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an apparatus of the class described, -a supporting 'mea'nsprovided with a lockin g lug portion, a valve provided with a stem reciprocally mounted *there'inyand a de- Ipresor member adapted to engage with and depress the valve "stem and provided with lugs thereon adapted to interlock withsaid locking lug portion on said valve supporting means.
2. In an apparatus of the classdescribed, a supporting means provided with locking lug ipo'rtions,a valve supported therein, and adepressormember-adapted to engage with and depress said *valve and provided with lugs thereon adapted to interlock with said lug portions on'said val vesupporting means when-said valve is shifted in its supporting means.
3. In an apparatus o'fthe class described, a supporting means provided with a locking lug portion, a valve provided with a stem reciprocally mounted therein, and a cap adapted to engage with and depress the valve stem and provided with lugs adapted to interlock with said locking :lug portion on said valve supporting ane'ans.
4. An apparatus of the class described, including a casing, a valve seat member mounted therein, a plug mounted in said casing positioning said valve seat and provided With locking lugs, a valve engaging said valve seat member and secured to a valve stem reciprocably mounted in said casing, a cap adapted to 'bear'aga'inst said valve stem and disengage said valve from said va'l've 'seat, and provided with lugs adapted to engage and interlock with said lugs on said plug when said valve is disengaged 60 fromsaid valve seat.
5. A valve and valve cap apparatus, including a supporting means provided with a locking portion, a valve reciprocally mounted therein, and a cap memb'er adapt- I "ed to engage with and depress said valve and provided with locking mean's adapted to interlock with the locking portion of said supporting means when said valve :is depressed.
6. A-va'lve :apparatus, including a supporting means provided with a locking portion, a valve =recipr0ca1ly mou-nted therein, and another member provided with a looking portion, said member :adaptedto engage {'5 said valve 1 and depress the same and interlock with the locking portion of said supporting means.
