In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side View of a saw embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the 'heel of the saw-blade. l
`A represents the sawlhandle, and B the saw-blade, constructed in' any of the -known Iand usual ways. That part of the handle A in which the blade is to be fastened is slotted in the ordinary manner for the insertion of the heel of the blade. In the heel of the blade B are made twLo slots, b b, one from the bottom, at or near the end, and the other from the top, farther away from the end. One side of each slot is curved, as shown in Fig. 2. Through the slotted part of the handle are passed two screws or pins, a a, the same distance apart as the inner ends of the slots b b. The saw-blade can now be easily inserted in the handle, 4in the manner as represented by the dotted lines in Fig. l, and,.when inserted, it is held by the pins or screws aa, inthe bottoms of the slots b b. It can also be easily removed and another blade inserted in the same handle when desired.
This is especially of advantage in the classesof saws known as compass, pruning, key-hole, and fret saws, but may, of course, be applied to any hand-saw, if so desired.
I am aware of patent No. 50,667, and do not claim anything shown therein; but
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The saw-blade B, provided with the slots b b, in combination With the slotted handle A, provided with pins or screws a a, constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. p t
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
