Description

s. MILLER.
flame-Fasteners.
,No.I56,368.V
' v INVENTOR 'WITJVESSES.
Patented Oct. 27,1874
PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL MILLER, OF GRATIS, onro.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAME-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,368, dated October 27, 1874 application filed April 20, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL MILLER, of Gratis, in the county of Preble and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Fasteners; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to. the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a hame-fastener, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view of a lever used in my hame-fastener. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hame-fastener; and Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the draft-hook.
A represents the draft-hook, to be fastened or hooked into one of the hames, and the other end of the hook is slotted and turned up,forming ears or flanges B B. At the point where these flanges are turned up is a cross-bar, a, in the slot b. 0 represents the lever, pivoted by a pin, 'i, between the flanges B B, said pin passing through an elongated curved slot, d, in the inner end of the lever. This end of the lever is formed with a hook, it, corresponding in shape with the interior of the turned-up flanges B B. In the back of this hook is a notch, f, to fit over the cross-bar a. D represents a rectangular frame provided with any desired number of cross-bars and connected by a link, E, with the other hame. When the part E is attached to the hame the lever (J is opened and the frameD passed over the same at any of the crossbars desired; then, by closing the lever and attaching the book A to the other hame the tension of the frame D on the hook h of the lever will draw the lever backward to the extent of the slot 01, so that the notch f will pass down over the crossbar a, and thereby lock the lever in place.
By drawing the lever forward to the extent of the slot d it may be opened to.change the frame D from one cross-bar to another.
' Having thus fully described'our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the draft-hook A, having hooked flanges B B, slot b, and cross-bar a, the lever 0 having slot d, hook h, and notch f, and the detachable frame I) and link E, all
constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of March, 1874.
