JOHN KIRKPATRICK, CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORE-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,296, dated October 27, 1874; application filed September 5, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J GEN-KIRKPATRICK, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pipe-Gore Boxes, of which box, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top View of the corebox open. Fig. 2 is an end View. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of Fig. 1, showing the core-box closed. Fig. 4 is a view of the striker seen in dotted lines in Fig. 2.

This core-box is made in two parts, A and B, which are preferably hinged together, as seen at O C. These parts are hollowed out to correspond with the shape and size of the core to be made. Across one end of the lower part B is a rest, I), for one end of the core-bar E. At the other end of the box is a rest, F, which is raised by means of a cam-lever, G. H is a book, which is attached to the movable rest F, which serves to hold the core-bar in place. The upper part A of the box is made with a longitudinal opening, I, and when the bar is placed. in the box, as seen in the drawing, the parts are held together by the hook J. The space K around the bar isrammed full of sand and brushed off level with the point or top of B. The box is then closed and rammed full of sand through the opening L, and the sur plus of sand is removed with the small strikers L, applied as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 2, which leaves the circle of the core complete. The box is then opened, and the lever G is pressed down, which raises the core at that end. The bar is now lifted out with the sand upon it, and set in the mold prepared for it.
This mold can be used for all kinds of cores for pipes, square, round elbows, and joints of all kinds, the box being made, in shape and size, to correspond.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the core-bar E, slide F, provided with hook H, and cam-lever G, operating substantially as described,
