Description
A. m. Romans 7 I Evapora ting Attachments to Heaters.
No.156,258. m Patented 0ct.2 7,1874.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTA M. RODGERS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN EVAPORATING ATTACHMENTS TO HEATERS.
Specification forming part of Lcttels Patent No. 156,258, dated October 27, 1874; application filed February 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
invention appertains to fully understand, make,
and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,-making part of this specification, in which- Figure. 1 is a front view of the lower part of a fire-place stove with my invention applied, a portion of one of the attachments being broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the evaporator detachedou the line a: m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a detachable receptacle, A. for water to be placed on the outside of a fire-place stove, near the body thereof, and constructed to conform to the varying shapes of said body and the flues. This receptacle may be constructed of terra-cotta, metal, or other suitable material, and will have its inner face lined with, or the entire body constructed of, non-corrosive material, to prevent rust, and be occupied partly or entirely by sponge or similar substance, B, which absorbs the water and the dust and gas, or matters that naturally collect in the water.
The receptacle is readily detachable from its place of application forconvenience of filling, cleansing, &c.
When heat is passedfrom the heater or register it will warm the receptacle A and the water therein. The vapor rising therefrom mingles with the heat and moistens the same,
- whereby the dry heat in the apartment is modified and improved.
I am aware that water trays or pans, in connection with heating apparatus for evaporizing, have been used before, and are shown in Bulkleys patent, 17th August, 1858, Stuart & Bridges patent, 1st June, 1869, and Bibbs patent, 20th July, 1869. This, therefore, I do not claim; but
What I do claim as my invention is- The vertical detachable water trough or drawer A, lined with non-corrosive material, adapted to be placed on one or both sides of a parlor-heater, and having partitioned sections for the reception of absorbent material, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
' AUGUSTA M. RODGERS.
