To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARNOLD MOETTELI, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at Winterthur, Switzerland, Alte Itomerstrasse 21, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooling Plants for Coke, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a cooling plant for coke, in which the incandescent coleis cooled by means of a current of gas circulated through a heat exchanging device. It consists in that the speed of flow of the gas current is regulated by means of a device, which automatically adjusts itself in accordance with the heat to be given up, and also controls the fan. The device controlling the fan is thus controlled by the temperature of the coke. v

The cooling of the coke, as well as the utilization of the heat derived from it, is effected by the fan f forcing the gaseous contents'of the cooling receptacle in a closed circuit through the channel g, the pipe h, the boiler z and the coke.
As the rate of exchange of heatY to the said boiler depends on the speed of'flow of the gas, but will fluctuate greatly with the temperature of the coke if the speed of flow of the said cooling gas remains constant, the
plant is provided according to the invention with a device adapted for varying the speed of flow of the gas, the said speed being controlled during the cooling operation in such a manner, that the variations in the rate of heat exchange caused by fluctuations in the temperature of the coke are compensa-ted automatically. The said device consists of an arrangement actuated by the lever c and serving for varying the supply of energy to the motor driving the fan. The arrangement is such, that the supply of energy and `the speed Aof the cooling gas increase when the said lever is raised, and decrease when the lever is lowered. I claim:

In an apparatus for cooling incandescent coke by means of gases forced by a motor driven blower through the charge of coke in a container and through a boiler, the combination of the motor with a device for varying the speed of the motor, said device being automatically controlled by a thermostat under the influence of the mean temperature of the coke and by a regulating device under the influence of the steam produced in the boiler, whereby the blower is so driven that the Speed of the cooling gases and the heat transmitted to the boiler corresponds at all times to the heat required by the boiler. j f
