DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed May 10,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLARD G. Buneiurr and RICHARD HEUER, citizens of the United States, residing at Tampa, in the county of Hillsborough and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Display Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a display device adapted to be used in theaters and elsewhere, and so constructed that a plurality of rotatablemembers will reflect light cast upon them by a spot lamp, or otherwise, novel means being provided for imparting rotation to the various movable elements of the structure.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description pro ceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of j ts and in the details of construction he after described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away; Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a sectional View showing a slight modi- .fication; Figure 4 is an elevation showing. the modification depicted in Figure 3; and Figure 5 is a diagrammatic view illustrating in a general way, how the structure may be illuminated.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a frame which may be of any clesired sort. It preferred, the frame, denoted by the numeral 1, may be of inverted U- shape, including side bars 2 and a base bar 8. The side arms 2 carry cross pieces 4 supporting a casing 5, the side arms passing upwardly through the casing. By means of clips 6, the casing 5 is held on the cross pieces 4. The casing 5 carries depending bearing brackets 7 and there are couplings or bearings 8 in the side arms 2. The brackets 7 and the couplings 8 carry a horizontal shaft 9 whereon is journaled a horizontal upper rotary display member 10,

which may be of any desired sort. It preterred, the member 10 niay taper. toward its ends. The display member 10 is supplied with a reflecting s-urtace, which may consist or a plurality of small mirrors 12. The display member 10 is prevented from moving endwise on the shaft 9 by means of set collars 11. At one end, the display member 10 is provided with a pulley 14: about'which is trained a belt 15 driven by an electric motor 16 or any other kind of a motor, located in the casing At its ends, the display member 10 has driving elements 17, such as disks.
A lower display member 18, constructed like the display member 10, and comprising a plurality of mirrors 19, is journaled for rotation on the base bar 3 and is held against longitudinal movement on the base bar, by. means of set collars 20. The lower display member 18 is supplied at its ends with driving elements 22, such as disl Vertical display members 21 are journaled on the side,
arms 2 of the frame 1 and are free to slide.
longitudinally thereon. The display members 21 are provided with mirrors-23, some of the mirrors being omitted, for the sake. of simplicityin the drawmg At its lowerv driving element 25, cooperating with the cor responding element 17 on the end of the upper display member 10.
In Figure 5, the device scribed is designated generally by the-num eral 26 adapted to be illuminatedby a spot lamp 27, the structure forming the subject matter of this application being located-0n a stage, or in an orchestra pit, the lamp 27 being disposed in the gallery of a playhouse, or elsewhere. It is obvious that when the various members 18, 21 and 10 are rotated, the mirrors thereon, such as the mirrors 12, will reflect the light cast from the lamp 27 or other source, to all parts of the house, producing a novel effect, notably if different colored lights are used in the hereinbetore 1 del 21, rotation is imparted to the lower display member 18,, by Way of the cooperating driving elements 22 and 24:.
In the modification delineated in Figures 3 and 4, the side arm is marked by the numeral 28, and the bracket, corresponding to the part 7 is denoted by the numeral 29. The bearing 30, corresponding to the part 8 is vertically slidable on the side arm The shaft, corresponding to the shaft 9, is marked by the numeraifil and is journaled in the bearing 30. The display mem ber is shown at 32 and corresponds to the member 10, the set collar appearing at 33. The shaft 31 is journaled for rotation in the bearing which is mounted for vertical adjustment, as at 35, on the bracket The construction shown in Figures i and 3 permits the display member 32 to be adjusted vertically thereby having a proper cooperation between such a part as the driving element 17 and the driving element -25 of Figure 1.
lVhat is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a vertical frame, a horizontal display n'iember journaled on the lower portion of one side of the frame, a vertical display member journaled on the frame, a horizontal display member journaled on the upper portion of the frame, driving elements on the last specified display member and on the vertical display member, driving elements on the vertical display member and on the first specified display member, means for imparting rotation to one of the display members and means for mounting the frame in a fixed position.
2. In a device of the class described, a frame spaced horizontal display members jour-naled on the frame, a vertical display member disposed between the horizontal members, all of said members having reflecting surfaces, interengaged driving elements on the vertical "display member a i i'd on the horizontal display members, means carried by the frame for driving one of the display members and means for mounting the frame in a fixed position.
In a device of the class described, a
vertically disposed and substantially U- shaped frame, a horizontal lower display member journaled on the loWer portion of the frame, vertical side display members journaled on the sides of the frame, a horizontal upper display member journaled on the frame, interengaged driving elements on the upper display member and on the side members, interengaged driving elements on the side display members and on the lower display member, a motor enthe frame and com'iected to the upper display member, and means for mounting the frame in a fixed position.
4. In a device of the class described, a frame, a horizontal lower display member journaled on the frame, a horizontal upper display member journaled on the frame, a vertical side display member journale'd on the frame and slidable thereon to engage With the lower display member, the upper display member having peripheral driving engagement With the side display member, a motor on the frame, means for connecting the motor operatively With the upper display member, and means for mounting the frame in a fixed position.
5. In a device of the class described, a frame, spaced display members journ'aled on the frame, a third display member disposed between the first-specified display members, all of said members having refleeting surfaces, the third display member being disposed substantially at right angles to the first-specified display members, interengaging elements on the third display member and on the other display members, means for driving one of the-display members, means for mounting the frame in a fixed position, and artificial means for illuminating the display members from a fixed point external to the display members.
In testimony that We claim the foregoing as our own, We have hereto afiixed our signatures. V
