UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WADE H. ASHER, OF SELMA, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR F ONE-HALF TO HARRISON HAMPTON, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
FRUIT CUTTER.
Application filed July 26,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WADE H. AsHnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Selma, in the county of Fresno and State of California, have invented a new and use ful Fruit Cutter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device designed to facilitate the hand-picking of fruit such as grapes, apples, pears or the like to insure against bruising the fruit when removing it from the stem.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be readily positioned on the hand of the user, the construction being such as to be held in position by the natural bend of the index finger, obviating the use of securingstraps or gloves commonly employed for securing knives or the like to the hands of the user.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a removable blade so that the blade may be readily and easily removed for repair or replacement. I
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
v Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hand disclosing a device constructed in accordance with the invention as positioned thereon. Figure 2 is a plan view of the device. Figure 3 is a sectional view' taken on line of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a substantially tubular body portion 5 which has a portion thereof cut 1924. Serial N0. 728,400.
away to provide an opening or clearance for the knuckle of the fore-finger when the body portion is properly positioned on the hand of the user.
As shown by Figure 2 of the drawing, the body portion is curved longitudinally so that the curvature of the body portion will conform to the curvature of the inner finger of the user supporting the device.
A ring member indicated at 6 has swivel connection with the body portion 5 at 7 and is designed to receive the second finger of the hand of the user to brace the device against twisting on the fore-finger when in use. 3
As, clearly shown, the body portion is formed with a recessed portion 7 adapted to accommodate the blade 8 which is provided with openingsto accommodate the securing screws 9 that pass through the blade and are embedded in suitable threaded openings provided in the body portion.
The blade is provided with teeth 10 adapted to readily cut the stem of the fruit being picked, eliminating any possibility of bruising the fruit while the same is being gripped by the hand of the picker. 7
It is believed that in View of the foregoing detail description, a further detail description as to the operation of the device is unnecessary.
I claim:
A fruit stem cutting device comprising a curved body portion, the body portion adapted to engage the under surface of the forefinger of the hand of the user throughout,
substantially the entire length of the finger, the upper portion of the body portion being. cut away to provide a clearance. for the knuckle of the forefinger, a blade carried by the body portion, a ring member adaptcd to be positioned over a finger of the hand of the user, and means for pivotally connecting the ring member to the body portion.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
