Scaffnlds.
N0. 155,969. Patented Oct. 13,1874.
PATENT OFFICE.
MARTIN PERKINS-OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS HIS RIGHT TO B. F. MCTYRE AND JOHN G. MITCHELL.
IMPROVEMENT lN SCAFFOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,969, dated October 13, 1874 application tiled September 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARTIN PERKINS, of Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented an Improvement in Scaffolding for the Use of Painters, Builders, Ste., of which the following is a specication:
The object of my invention is to furnish a scatt'olding for painters and builders, and the machine Will be more particularly described With reference to the accompanying drawing.
A is a piece of timber', of any desired length, With a depth of six inches or more, and Whose thickness may be two inches. vay a are slots or openings, in which screw-bolts' are placed, attached to an upright piece of metal, a, that, when not in use, is free to be moved back and forth through the length ot' the slots. b is a piece ot' metal which is held by the thun1bscrews i i against the casing when adjusted, serving to protect the saine from injury, the piece ce being first made fast by means of the screw-bolts. O is a piece of metal, either straight or in the shape of a molding to a door or Window, and ttingthe Wall, Window, or door when properly adjusted, so that, in
connection With b, when arranged, it makes a clamp on the inside and outside of the Window or door, holding the piece of timber A in its position. A block of rubber may be used on the inside or Wall side of the metal clamp b, for the further protection of the casing and giving some elasticity of adjustment. fis a metal face on both sides ot' the block A, ex' tending from g to g', to give strength to the same. The outer end of the arin or block ot' tiinber A, from which tackling is suspended, and upon which the scaii'old or bed is to rest, is broken away in the drawing.
I claim as nly invention- The arm A, with slots a and a', upright piece of metal a, upright b, molding-shaped piece O, thumb-screws iz, metal faces f, all in combination, for the purpose of forming a scaffold for painters7 and builders7 use, substantially as specified.
MARTIN PERKINS.
