UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
SEELY HETFIELD, OF WATSEKA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN STOCK-FRAMES FOR PLATFORM-SCALES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,946, dated October l3, 1874; application filed July 20, 1874.
were granted to me March 10, 1874. In my former case the stock-frame was so arranged as to be run oif from the platform only to the side. In many places the scale-platform is in the street or so placed that the frame cannot be allowed to stand at the side of the platform, and my present invention is for thepurpose of obviating that difficulty, and enabling the frame to be run off endwise, quartering, or in any direction to a position out of the way. To this end the nature of my invention consists in supporting the frame on two wheels so connected to levers that when on the scaleplatform the levers, by being thrown up, permit the frame to rest upon the platform, where it is securely held by the rods with catch or lug on the lower ends, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a stockframe embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a Figs. 3,. 4, and 5 are detached views of parts thereof.
A represents the stock-frame, constructed in any suitable manner, and provided with doors at one or both ends for the ingress and egress of the cattle. B represents the scaleplatform, and O the frame surrounding the same. 011 each side of the stock-frame A are suitable guides at a, between which is placed a vertical sliding frame, D, carrying at its lower end a wheel, E. Through the frame D passes a lever, G, which is pivoted in the same. One end of the lever G is pivoted or connected to the frame A by a toggle-joint, d, and the other end extends beyond the end of the frame through an elongated staple or guide, b, attached to the frame. When the levers G G are thrown down and fastened by means of pins 6, the frame is thrown on the wheels E, and may be moved in any direction desired from the scale-platform. On the frame-work C surrounding the platform B are suitable guides, H H, for guiding and stopping the wheels when the stock-frame is moved onto the platform. The levers G G are then raised, which lifts up the wheels and allows the stockframe to rest on the scale-platform, where it is fastened by the rods 71., having catches on their lower ends. The gates are then opened, the stock driven in and weighed, the stock then driven out, the rods h drawn up, the levers lowered and fastened by the pins 6, which raises the frame, and supports it on the two wheels, when it is rolled off to the place selected for it to stand when not in use, in the same manner as a hand-cart is propelled.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a stock-frame, A, of the wheels E E, slides D D, and levers G G, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of June, 187 4.
SEELY HETFIELD.
