Description

Oct. 27, 1925- Y H. TSCHUDY ROLLER SUPPORT FOR SPINNING MACHINES Filed march so. 1925 Patented Oct. 27, 1925.
1,559,384 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY TSCHUDY, or ENNENDA, SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR T0 TSCHUDY' srlnmn'e CORPORATION, or NEXV YORK, N. Y.,-A conronn'rron or NEW YoRK.
, ROLLER SUPPORT FOR, SPINNING MACHINES.
Application filed March 30, 192 5. Serial No. 19,196.
T 0 all whom it may concern; 7 Be it known that I, HENRY, TSCI-IUDY, a
citzen of Switzerland, residing at Ennenda,
Canton Glarus, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roller Supports for Spinning Machines,
drawing the yarn through the machine and clearer rolls are supported in contact with the fluted rolls for the purpose of removing the fly therefrom during the operation of the machine; These clearer rolls are usually supported in such manner as to render them difficult of removal and replacement.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved support for certain of the rolls of the drawing frame which is so arranged that ready access may be had to the rolls in order to facilitate their removal and replacement.
Another object is to provide a support for clearer rolls which is suspended, by means of the drawing rolls, in a position topermit of a uniform and yielding engagement to be maintained between said rolls.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed description, when taken in connection with thejacompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal section through a spinning machine constructed in acordance with the present invention; and I Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
In the form of the invention illustrated in the acompanying drawing the machine is shown as comprising a standard 3 for supporting the usual horizontal drawing frame generally indicated by the numeral 4. This drawing frame has mounted therein the front, intermediate and rear fluted drawing rolls 5, 6 and 7 respectively, which are of a construction commonly employed in machines ofthis character. Also supported by covered rolls 8, 9 andlO which contact, respectively, the rolls 5, 6 and 7, the yarn being drawn between these rolls in the usual manner. f
The present invention provides means for supporting clearer rolls 11 and 12 in contact the drawing frame are the upperleather with the drawing'rolls 5, 6 and 7, which clearer, rolls are utilized for the purpose of removing fly from said drawing rolls during the operation of the machine. This means, as shown in the drawing, is in the form of a' supporting member or bar 13 designed to'be mounted above and rested upon the drawing rolls 5, 6 and 7 a horizontal position.
The supporting memher is provided preferably intermediate its ends with a depending stop 14: which extends between the rolls 6 and 7 and contactsthe former during the operation of the machine so as to limit the movement of the sup porting member toward the front of the machine which would otherwise occur due to the rotation of the drawing rolls in a counterclockwise direction, as viewed in Figure 1.
For the purpose of suspending the clearer roll 11 beneath the front drawing roll 5 and in contact therewith the invention provides a hanger 15 carried by each of the supporting members 13, it being understood that there are two supporting members for each set of rolls. The upper portion of the hanger 15 is extended through a slot or opening 16 formed in the supporting member 13 adjacent the forward end thereof so that said hanger may have a vertical movement relative-to said member. The upper end of the hanger is screw threaded as indicated at 17, and has mounted thereon an adjusting nut 18 between which and the the upper surface of the supporting member 13 there is interposed a coil spring 19 designed to yisldably maintain the hanger in its operative position. The lower end of the hanger is bent laterally and provided in the bent portion with a bearing 20 receiving one end of the shaft of the clearer roll 11 and from this construction it will be apparent that the clearer roll will be yieldably maintained in direct contact with the drawing roll 5. The amount of pressure of the roll 11 against the roll 5 may be regulated by adjusting the nut 18 longitudinally of the hanger to change the tension of the spring 19.
The clearer roll 12 is likewise supported by a hanger 21 suspended from the supporting member 13 in the same manner as described in connection with the hanger 15. The hanger 21 is formed with a slightly different kind of a bearing 22 from that of the bearing 20 and the bearing 22 receives one end of the shaft of the clearer roll so that said roll is suspended beneath the rolls 6 and 7 and in direct contact with both of them.
From this construction it will be obvious that the clearer rolls 11 and 12 are held in yielding contact with the drawing rolls and are so supported by the hangers 15 and 21 that the clearer rolls may be readily detached from said hangers whenever desired.
What is claimed is:
1. In a spinning machine, a plurality of drawing rolls, a supporting member resting thereon and including a stop depending therefrom and interposed between said rolls to limit longitudinal movement of said member in one direction, a hanger depending from said supporting member and having vertical movement relative thereto, and a clearer roll carried by said hanger in engagement with said rolls.
2. In a spinning machine, drawing rolls, a rigid supporting member mounted above said rolls, a rigid hanger depending from said supporting member between said drawing rolls, and a clearer roll carried by said hanger in engagement with one of said drawing rolls. 7
3. In a spinning machine, drawing rolls, a rigid supporting member resting upon said drawing rolls, a rigid hanger depending from said supporting member, a clearer roll carried by said hanger in engagement with one of said drawing rolls, and means for yieldably suspending said hanger from said supporting member for vertical movement relative thereto.
4-. In a spinning machine, drawing rolls, a bar resting upon said drawing rolls, a hanger depending from said bar between said rolls, a clearer roll carried by said hanger in engagement with said drawing rolls, a spring carried by said hanger and engaged with said bar for yieldably suspending said hanger from said member, and means on said hanger for regulating the tension of said spring to vary the pressure between said drawing and clearer rolls.
In testimony whereof Ihave aflixed my signature.
HENRY TSCHUDY.
