IMPROVEMENT-IN DEVICES FOR FASTENING COVERS TO BUTTER-TUBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,916, dated Ortober 13, 1874; application led August 25, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, R. LESTER BAENEY and SAMUEL K. BUTTERFIELD, of Swanton, in the county of Franklin and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Fastening Govers to Butter-Tubs, and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specilcation.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction of a hook or clasp, formed of wire, in such a manner that it may be driven into the cover on top, and also into the side ot' the tub or box to hold the cover thereon, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Figure l is a top view. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a device showing my invention; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastener.
A represents an ordinary butter-tub, and B is the lid thereof. G represents the hook or clasp for fastening the lid to the tub. This hook is made of wire, having its upper end bent at right angles, and then downward,
forming the sharp point a.. The lower end of the wire is also bent inward, forming a sharp point, b.
When the lid B is placed on the tub A, the point a is driven into the top of the lid near the edge, and the point b driven into the side of the tub, thus holding the lid firmly on the tub.
Any desired number of these fastenin gs may be used, and they are equally applicable to any Wooden tubs and boxes as well as to
