IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,869, dated October 13, 1874 5 application filed .Tune 27, 1874.
Aand then pointed out in the claim.
A A are standards, connected by cross-bars B O C; D, the large uted roll, having crank E; F, the small roll; Gr, the endless apron; and H, a belt-tightening roll, placed in adjustable bearings I. These are all old and well known to the public. The sides of the slots in the upper part of the standards A are concaved to receive and serve as guides to the half-bearings J, which rest upon the journals of the roller D, and to which are attached guide-pins K. Upon the guide-pins K are placed coiled springs L, and the upper ends of the said pins pass up through the ends of the wooden spring M, the ends of which pass through the said slots. To the center of the wooden spring M is attached a guide-pin, N, upon which is placed a coiled spring, O. The upper end of the pin N passes through the center of the wooden spring I), which rests upon the coiled spring O, and the ends of which pass through the slots of the standards A. The ends of the spring P are held down by pins Q, which are passed through holes in the standards A above the said ends. Sev eral holes are formed in the standards A to receive the pins Q, so that the tension of the springs, and consequently the pressure upon the clothes, may be regulated at will. i
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent t The long wooden springs I M, held at dii'- ferent elevations by the pins Q, and connected by guide-pin N and spring O, in combination With Jthe bearings J, provided with guide-pins K and springs L, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
