UNITED STATES PATENT oFF ca.
OTTO LEUO'HS AND Em HUBEBT, OI ELBEBFELD, GERMANY, ASSIGNORS TO FAR BER- I'ABRIKEN VOBM. FRIEDR. BAYER AND (10., F LEVERKUSEN, NEAR COLOGNE-ON- TEE-RHINE, G i
srmmno or nnrrrrcmnsrnm Io Drawing.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, O'rro Lnucns and EMIL Ht'mnnr, citizens of Germany, residing at Elberfeld, State of Prussia, Ger- 1 many, have invented new and useful Imrovements in the S inning of Artificial silk, of which the ollowing is a specification. 7
' This invention concerns the spinning of 10 artificial silk, in which the deleterious effect of :air has been obviated.
The air contained in the preci itating liquid easil collects in the form of ubbles on the we or bottom or other partsof the spinning apparatus. These air bubbles gradually increase and finally rise, when, on reachin the spinning jet they cause breaks of the t reads or other disturbances.
The subject of the present invention .is to lo avoid the separation of air on the walls of the spinning apparatus bytaking the precaution of carefully cleaning the walls, etc, from all centres or bases which might serve for the collection of fine air-bubbles.
28 This can be effected, for instance, by boiling the spinning apparatus with wateruntil completely freed from air and maintaining the whole arrangement in this condition by keeping under water and the like. The air' Application filed May 4, 1925. Serial No. 28,010.
settle and collect with the result that the detrimental and troublesome formation of air bubbles on the walls no longer occurs. We claim 1. In the process of manufacturing artificial silk, the treatment of the spinning ap-' paratus prior to spinning consistm in free mg the surfaces of such parts of t e apparatus, which come into contact with the preprecipitating liquid, from accumulated air,
y boiling and subsequent immersion under the water or other liquid which has been used for this purpose. I
3. In the process, of manufacturing cellulose acetate silk, the treatment of the spinnin apparatus prlor to spinning, consisting in reemg the surfaces of such parts of the apparatus, which come into contact with the greclpitatmg liquid, from accumulated air, y boiling and subsequent immersion under the water or other liquid which has been used for this pu ose.
In testimony w ereof we have hereunto set our hands.
OTTO LEUCHS. EMIL HUBERT.
