SELF-HEATING SADIRON.
Application filed Aug ust 18, 1921. Serial No. 493,403.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BE-RTUS A. LAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Big Prairie, in the county of Holmes and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Self-Heating Sadiron, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to self heating sad irons, and more particularly to the construction of the fuel tank which is carried by the iron and supplies fuel to the burner thereof.
lhe objects of the invention are to provide a fuel tank for self heated sad irons which is simple and inexpensive to 1nanu facture and durable and efiicient in use, being so constructed that the parts may be r-a Aiy assembled to form a tight tank.
With these objects in view, the invention mnsists in the construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being; understood that various changes in the form and details of construction may be made within the scope of the appended claim.
The invention thus set forth in general terms is illustrated in the accompanying ing the bottom section 2 and the top section 3 to which the handle 4 is attached, a shield 5 being preferably provided to protect the hand of the operator.
The burner (not shown) may be of any usual and well known construction, and is mounted within the body 1, being attached to the generator 6 which is connected by means of the feed pipe 7 to the tank, which in the present instance comprises the body portion 8 and the top portion 9.
An internally threaded connection 10 is mounted within the lower end of the body portion of the tank, being preferably held in place as by the solder 11, the upper end of the feed pipe 7 being passed through the aperture 12 in the bottom of the tank and threaded into the connection 10.
The top portion 9 of the tank is provided with the depending rim 18 having the upturned, annular flange 1% at its outer edge. The upper end of the body portion 8 of the tank is provided with the annular recess 15 arranged to receive the flange 1+1 of the top portion, the upper edge of the body portion being turned down over the edge of the flange 14 as shown at 16. Solder is then placed in the seam as shown at 17, forming an air tight oint between the body portion of the tank and the top portion thereof.
The depending, inwardly inclined flange -18 is provided at the central portion of the top 9 and the internally threaded nipple 19, which is provided with the annular, shouldered groove 20 is forced downwardly into said flange, the inner edge of the flange engaging said recess.
Solder is then flowed around the nipple 19, filling the annular recess between the flange 18 and the nipple, as shown at 21. A cap'screw 22 is provided for closing the nipple 19 in the usual manner.
It has been customary in the past to place the threaded nipple 19 through an aperture in the top of the tank and solder the same to the top upon the inside of the tank, and to overcome the diiiicuities in assembling the tank the present device has been designed.
Although the drawings and above specification disclose the best mode in which I have contemplated embodying my invention, i desire not to be limited to the details of such disclosure, for, in the further prac- 'tical application of my invention, many changes in form and construction may be made, as circumstances require or experience suggests, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim In a tank for a seltheated sad iron, an inwardly and downwardly inclined, annular flange, and an internally threaded nipple arranged to be inserted from the outside of the tank and located within said flange l and provided with an annular groove having an inwardly and downwardly inclined edge receiving the inner edge of the flange, the nipple being connected to the flange by solder surrounding the nipple Within the flange, the soldering operation being performed wholly from the outside of the tank.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
BERTUS A. LAKE.
