To ail whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, RQBERT G. DrsoN and Hauvnr Sp-PLUMMER, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Trooper, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, and Fairview V illage, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blowing y Devices, 'of which the following 1s a speci-` fication. l ,y
The ordinary air service hose, such as used for iniiating automobile tires, has on its end a device which when slipped over the tire-inflating stem allows the compresse-d air to pass into the tire. Said cud device ordinarily includes a valve which closes automatically upon removal from the tire-in ilating stem and remains closed until again slipped over the tire-iniiating stem. In
other words, the mere application of said A device to a tire-inflating stem eiiects the opening of said valve to inflatej the tire, and the removal of said device from the inlatingv stem effects the automatic closing of the valve as above mentioned.
In view of the above conditions such air service hoses are ordinarily not used for any purpose other than for inflating tires.
One object of our invention is to provide a handy device which can be 'conveniently employed for utilizing the air from such air service hoses for such purposes as cleaning and blowing out the dirt from various parts of 'an automobile. v
Another' object is to so construct our improved blowing device that it can be used to direct the air to locations ordinarily inaccessible for cleaning purposes. v'llhese objects and other advantageous ends which will be set forth hereinafter, we attain in the following manner, reference which Figure l is a perspective view showing our improved blowing device detached from an air service hose, and
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing our invention as it appears when in use.
Referring to the drawing, 5 represents an ordinary compressed air service hose pro vided at its end with a tire-initiating device 6, as previously mentioned, such for eX? ample as the well-known Schrader air chuck.
Our improved blowing device 7 includes an elongated body portion or handv grip 8 which is preferably made of cast metal.
.A spout 9 is secured to the end 1() of the ing with the hole in the air chuck' 6. Theair chuck 6 and body portion 8 are then squeezed by the hand, as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing, and the nipple will then enter the air chuck causing the opening of the valve and the passage of air through the duct 13 and spout 9.
By having the nipple 12 positioned between the ends of an elongated body, certain of the ngers can be positioned at opposite sides of a central transverse plane passing through the body 8 and nipple. This arrangement insures a iirm and steady grip of the blowing device 7 and the operator can easily hold the member 6 and body portion 8 together and at the same time the hand can be freely moved to direct the air to any desired locality.
"Our improved device can be used for cleaning out'small tubes and conduits or, if desired, it can be used for cleaning the upholstery of an automobile since the arrangement is such that the spout can be easily projected through small spaces and into places difficult to clean.
It ywill be noted that the nipple 12 forms a coupling means with the member 6 and, when holding the hand as above described, these two parts serve as means for connecting the passage 13 with theair service hose. However, upon release of the pressure of the hand,.the nipple 12 can' be withdrawn from the member 6 and the device 7 will then be detached and can be kept in a tool box or other convenient place. These delos vices can be carried by the owners of automobiles and furthermore, they can be kept handy by service station men so that when it is desired to use air for other than tireinating purposes, such air can be readily obtained through the medium of our improved device.
It will be further noted that the member" 6 tits over the nipple 12 in the same manner as it lits over the inlating stem of an auto-` mobile tire. Also we preferablyv make the outer surface of the nipple 12 slightly tapered so that it will form a snug tit within the hole of the member 6.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A blowing device for the purpose described including a portion providing an( elongated hand grip having a nipple projecting laterally therefrom and adapted to be pushed into the hole of an air chuck and release the air therefro/ni, said device hav-` air outlet passage which extends through said nipple and longitudinally through the body portion. i
3.`A. blowing device for the purpose described including an elongated body portion having a valve-opening coupling nipple projecting laterally therefrom, saidV body portion forming a hand grip and having an air outlet passage which extends through said nipple and then longitudinally through the body portion, and aspout connected to said body portion and registering with said passage.
