CLEANING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that l, SIDNEY L. SnLLAR's,`
a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania. have invented a new and useful Cleaning Device, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a novel construction and arrangement of a cleaning device which is designed to utilize compressed air, water, or a cleaning fluid, or any combination of air, water and cleaning fluid, the cleaning fluid being automatically drawn into the device by the vacuum created by the compressed air.
A\lihough not limited to use in the cleaning ot vehicles of the motor driven or other' types, it is especially adapted for such purposes and it has been found in practice that one man 1n the same time can clean as many.

lith the above and otherv objects in view, my invention consists of a novel cleaning device adapted to employ alone or in combination water, compressed air, and a cleaning fluid.
Other novel features of construction and advantage will hereinafter more clearly appear in thedetailed description of the invention.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanyingY drawing a typical embodiment thereof which is at present preferred by me, since said embodiment will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results. It is, however, to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my inventionl is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure 1 represents, in side elevation, a cleaning device, embodying my invention.

1 designates a pipe formlng the discharge do working by end or nozzle of a cleaning device embodyingmy invention. The pipe 2 is provided with a manually controlled valve 3 and discharges into the pipe 1, and at its rear end is adapted to receive a Hexible hose el, while its opposite end is connected to the pipe 1 by means of a union or fitting 5 to which is connected a manually controlled valve 6. The valve 6 has connected to it a flexible hose 7 which forms a vacuum pipe. 8 designates a compressed air pipe whichis connected to and spaced from the pipes 1 and 2 by means of the spring clips 9, the free ends of which are deflected to form rounded portions which closely engage their respective pipes. As the compressed airpipe' 8 is smaller than the other pipes, the hook formed by the bent ends of a clip is smaller at one end than it is at its other end. The pipe 8 is provided with a manually actuated valve and the rear end of such pipe is adapted to receive a iiexible hose 1.1 which leads from a source of fluid supply. such as, for example, an air compressor. The pipe 8 at its forward portion is bent towards the pipe 1 and has a tight .fit in an aperture 12. From the aperture 12 the pipe 8 telescopes within the pipe 1 for a desired distance, as indi-v cated at 13, so that a passage 14 is formed between the pipes 1 and 8. The different lines of hose 4f, 7 and l1 are preferably tied together by means of a cord 15.
The operation of my novel cleaning device will now be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, and is as follows The operator grasps the cleaning device by means of the different pipes which form handles in order to facilitate the manipulation of the cleaning device. lt the operator desires simply to use water the valves 6 and l0 are closed and the valve 3 opened. If a combination of water and compressed air is desired the valves 3 and 10 are opened and the valve Gis closed. lf a cleaning Huid is to be employed, such as, a soapy mixture or gasoline, the vacuum pipe 7 is placed in communication with suchcleaning Huid and the valve 6 opened and :one or both of the valves 3 and 10 opened, whereupon a vacuum will be created in the vacuum pipe 7 and the cleaning fluid will be drawn into the nozzle 1 and discharged from it mixed with the water or with the compressed air or with the water and compressed air depending upon which valves have been opened.

ln the washing of a vehicle, such las for example, an automobile, the exterior of the machine will be first coated with a soapysolution which will nozzle l throughthe vacuum pipe 7, after Which it can be Washed od by Water passing through the pipe 1 and then the Wood-Work of the machine can be readily and quickly dried by utilizing simply compressed air passing through the nozzle 1.
