ROBERT H. BEAUMONT, or nannon, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGN-OR TO B. H. BEAU'MONT 00., OFPHILADELPH A, PENNSYLVANIA, A conronarron OEPENNSYLVANIA.
TWO-WAY TRAMCAR SKIP-HOIST APPAIRATU'S,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RoBER'r H. BEAUMONT, a citizen of the United States, residing at liadnor, in the county of Montgomery and Fitate of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Two-Way Tramcar Skip-Hoist Apparatus, of which the following is a specitlcation.
The present invention is particularly applicable to installations in which the length of the tram car travel is comparatively long with respect to the lift of the skip hoist which is comparatively short. It is customary to run skip hoists at maximum speed 15 so that in the character of installation above referred to the tram car would run faster than the skip hoist and high speed for the tram car is undesirable because it interferes with proper dumping and with proper starting and stopping. The principal object of the present invention is to provide for attaching the car to the cable in such a way that the car can travel in either direction from a skip hoist disposed at an intermediate portion of the tramway and at an appropriate speed or. more accurately, at a speed one-half of what it would be if the skip hoist were at one end of the tramway.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description, and the invention will be claimed'at the end of the description.
Generally stated. the invention may be said to comprise twoway tram car skip hoist apparatus including a tramway with skip hoist located at intermediate travel, a car. interconnected winding drums and their hoist and car cables, means for guiding oppositely moving reaches of the car cable along the tramway, and devices for connecting and disconnecting the car with either of said reaches to run the car out and back in either direction from intermediate position.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof- Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view of apparatus embodying features of the invention, and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of a portion of the apparatus illustrating a modification or variation.
In the drawings 1 is a tramway which may be level or inclined, and 2 is a skip hoist located at inter- Application filed May 9, 1925. Serial No. 29,059.
I mediate travel of the car 3. 4 and 5 are interconnected winding drums. 6 is a skip hoist cable, and 7 is a car cable having both of its ends connected with the drum 4. 8, 9 and 10 are means for guiding oppositely moving reaches a and a of the car cable along the tramway 1. There are devices for connecting and disconnecting the car 3 with either of said reaches a or a to run the car out and back in either direction from an intermediate position. As shown there is a button 11 on each reach a and 0, of cable and there is on the car 3 a device 12 for engaging and disengaging one or the other of the buttons 11. As shown the device 12 consists of a pair of notched arms between which the button may be inserted or removed. However, the device 12 shown is an example of a catch clamp. As illustrated in Fig. 1, there is one catch clamp 12 but in the modification illustrated in Fig. 2 there is a catch clamp 12 on each side of the car.
It will be readily understood that whichever way the drums are being rotated the reaches a and a will move in opposite dimotions and furthermore the lineal speed of the cable 7 may be considerably slower than the lineal speed of the cable 6.
To run the car out from loading position in either direction it is only necessary to attach it to the reach of cable that is movin in that direction.
In the modification illustrated in Fig. 2, one reach of cable a is in front of the car and the other reach of cable a is at the back of the car and there are twoguide wheels 8* instead of one, as shown in Fig. l. However, the construction and mode of operation are the same with the exception that the catch clamps are on opposite sides of the car.
7 It may be remarked that the bight or loop of the car cable runs around the guide pulley 8 or guide pulleys 8.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modifications may be made in details of construction and arrangement without departing from the spirit-of the invention whic 1 is not limited as to those matters or otherwise than as the prior art and the appended claims may require.
I claim:
1. Twoway tram car skip hoist apparatus comprising a tramway with skip hoist located gee intermediate travel, a car, inter connected winding drums and their hoist and car cables means for guiding oppositely moving reaches of the car cable along the tramway, and devices for connecting and disconnecting the car with either of said reaches, substantially as described.
2. In twoway tram cat skip hoist apparatus a tramway Wifih sk-ip hpistlocated at 10 intermediate travel, a can, a inding drum and its car cable, means for guiding oppoand disconnecting the car with either of said 15 reaches.
ROBERT H. BEAUMONT.
