VARNISH FORMULA.

and provide a hard smooth coat for the surface.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined varnish and cleaner, which can beused as a polish, for furniture and 'These ingredients are all mixed together 2 in the proportions mentioned, which will make substantially five pints of the im-.
proved varnish. p
The ingredients combine together to form a varnish, which will behard and transparent, and which will quickly dry and act as a cleaner on the surface on which it is used. 7
If it ,is desired to color the varnish it is merely necessary to add the desired coloring matter thereto.
The-linseed oil acts as a preserver for the surface and as a vehicle for the varnish, the
5 turpentine and drier act as a drying agent for the varnish, while the salicylate soda acts a cleaner for the surface and blends the Application filed January 23, 1923. Serial No. 614,485.
entire composition together in a way that will not corrode or leave any settling.
The powdered English rosin acts as a coating for the surface to which the varnish is applied and will quickly dry and the ether and the alcohol combine together to disintegrate and reduce the rosin to a fluid state. The ether also acts as a penetrating, cleaning, and drying element which is also true of the wood alcohol. I
When it is desired to use the improved varnish, the same is applied to a cloth which is rubbed over the surface to be cleaned and the dirt on the surface is loosened by the varnish and removed with the cloth, after which a dry cloth is used for further removing any particles of dirt and the like. The varnish is now left to dry which will form a hard protecting coat.v
The improved varnish, owing to the nature thereof can also be effectively used as a furniture polish and will clean the furniture, as the same is applied.
Changes in details may be made as to the exact proportions of the ingredients used.
What I claim as new is;-
1. A hard transparent cleaning and quick dryingvarnish comprising powdered English rosin, sodium salicylate, ether, a drier, and a drying oil vehicle for said ingredients;
2. A hard transparent cleaning and quick drying varnish comprising powdered English rosin, turpentine, ether, sodium salicylate, alcohol, a drier, and a linseed oil vehicle.
