PIERRE JOUANNEA'UX, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
COMPRESSOR FOR FLUIDS.
Application led February 25, 1924. Serial No. 695,062.
To all wiz-0m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, PIERRE JOUANNEAUX, citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Compressors for Fluids, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved compressor of the cylinder and piston type for sticking, compressing and delivering fluids of all kinds.
A constructional form of an improved compressor according to this vinvention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanyin'g drawings in which the single figure is a part-sectional elevation of the improved compressor..
The improved compressor comprises essentially a standard D capable of being fixed at any desired place. On the lower part or base plate of the standard there are pro vided two bearings in which is rotatably mounted an axle or pivot pin K on which is fixed the end of the rod O of a piston B. This piston is fitted with a leather valve I .or other suitable valve adapted to seat itself upon aI suction duct, and it is also formed with a delivery duct to which is fitted a pipe J of suitable shape and length.
The said piston is adapted to Work in a cylinder ,A provided with cooling ribs A and furnished at its upper end with an upstanding lug comprising near its free end a ball bearing L.
In this ball bearing there engages a crankpin G fixed to a disk F rotated by a shaft E which revolves in bearings carried by the standard D and receives its motion through the medium of a pulley C from any suitable source of energy-(not shown).
It will be perceived that when the shaft E is rotated, the crank-pin G will cause a vertical to-and-fro motion ofthe cylinder combined with a simultaneous lateral oscillatory motion due to the axle pin K of the piston rod O being mounted in the bearings on the base of the standard.
During its ascent the cylinder sucks fluid through the valve I, and in its descent the fluid is forced by it out through the delivering duct and the pipe J.
It is to be understood that the described constructional form of the improved comthe invention.
For instance it may comprise a plurality `of cylinders and pistons. Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is A fluid compressor, comprising a standard provided with a base; a piston having the lower end of its rod pivoted to said base, and having suction and delivery ducts for the fluid formed through its head, the suction duct being provided with a check valve; a cylinder wherein said piston works having a closed upper end provided with a lug, and an open lower end; a drive shaft journaled in the upper end of the standard; a crank disk attached to said shaftA and provided with a pin engaged With said lug, thereby to positively impart to said cylinder, simultaneously, both an endwise recprocatory movement and a lateral oscillatory movement; and a delivery pipe for the compressed fluid connected to the outer end of the delivery duct and extending through the 'openl end of the cylinder.
ture,
PIERRE J OUANN EAUX.
