To all whom it may concem:

Be it known that I Buronn J. STEEN, a citizen of the United State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in a Safety Razor, of which the following isa specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a safety razor.

. One object of the invention is to provide a razor of the character described formed "to receive the conventional type of blade, now in common use, and embodying also means whereby the blade can be easily sharpened without removal from the razor.

Another object of the invention is to provide a safety razorwhich is of simple construction, and may be cheaply produced and whose blades may 'be qulckly and easily sharpened when the same becomesdull. 1

With the above and other ob'ectsin view this invention has particular relation to 'certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification, and

Referrin now more particularly to the drawing, w erein like numerals of reference designate similar-parts in each of the fig u'res the numeral 1 designates the handle, one end of whichis formed with a substantially rectangular head 2, whose outer surface is convex and formed with an abrading coat 3of suitable sharpening material.

The handle is slitted lengthwise, as at-4, and this slit is formed into the twospaced, transverse bearings 5 and 6. At one edge the head has the short end extensions, or fingers 7, 7, andat its other edge the head has similarly disposed end extensions which are retracted forming the catches 8, 8 and the respective ends of the head have the aligned notches 9, 9. 4

In use for shaving urposes, the cross rod 12 is located in the caring 6, with the side arms 11 resting in the respective end notches 9 and with the ends of the operative edge of the blade engaged under the catches 8. In this position the razor may be safely used for shaving.

When it desired to sharpen the blade the frame is grasped and pul ed outwardly to carry the cross rod 12 into the bearin .5. The op osing sides of the handle are flexible and Wlfi yield, or bend, outwardly to permit this movement, .and will spring back together when the cross rod is seated in said bearing. The ends of the blade holder ma now be rasped and the blade swun bac and forth with its edge in contact with the abrading surface 3. The inner sides'of the arms 11, have the notches 21, 21 which receive the respective ends of the head during this swinging movement. The sharpened ed e of the bladeis held out of contact with t e edges of the head, at the end of each stroke, in sharpening, by the fingers 7, and catches 8.-

When the blade is sharpened the frame maybe forcedback to original position, with disengage the ends of the head therefrom to erm1t this movement of the frame, the Blade ends may be new again engaged under the catches 8 with the side arms in the end notches 9 and the razor will be again in osition for shaving.

6. A razor including a handle, a head carried by one end thereof whose outer side 1s convex, a frame carried by the-handle, a

blade holder mounted in the frame, a blade in "said holder, said frame being adjustable into two ositions relative to the handle,.

hooks carried by one edgeof the head, said frame, when in one position being adapted to swing back and forth relative to the head, and when in its position being adapted to hold the blade edge in engagement with said hooks.
