Be it known that I, Josnrn IV. BRINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pocatello, in the county of Bannock and State of Idaho, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Ironing Boards, of which the following is a specification.

This invention contemplates the provision of an ironing board provided with means for clamping the board to the edge of a table or other suitable support, the means including supporting legs adapted to be arranged obliquely to the edge of the table when the board is in use, and capable of being folded in parallelism to the board proper when not in use.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a board of the above mentioned character wherein the means for clamping the board to the table edge or support is adjustable, so that the structure may be associated with supports of varying heights and thicknesses.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawings forming part of this application,like numerals of reference indicate similar. parts in the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the board associated with the table edge.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawings in detail 10 indicates the board proper which is of the usual configuration. Arranged transversely of the board and secured to the underside thereof is a strip or block 11 having a longitudinal bore for the reception of a rod 12, the latter being susceptible of turning with- .in the block, to permit the supporting legs to be arranged obliquely to the board, or folded parallel therewith. The rod 12 passes through the supporting legs 13 which are arranged at the opposite longitudinal edges of the board, and the rod is equipped with nuts 14 for holding the legs associated with the rod for movement therewith. The legs 13 are braced by transversely connecting elements 15. The corresponding upper ends of the legs are bevelled as at 16, and secured to the bevelled surface of each leg is an inverted L-shaped bracket 17.' These brackets project an appreciable distance beyond the ends of said legs, and have their corresponding short branches 18 disposed horizontally above a suitable support, and are provided with adjusting screws 19 adapted to be tightened against the support. These adjusting screws are swivelled in plates 20 which are secured to a clamping member 21 of elongated contour, the clamping member being arranged adjacent one end of the board and extending beyond the sides thereof as shown.

In practice, the clamping member reposes upon the upper surface of the table edge or other suitable support indicated at 22 in the manner shown in Figure 1, while the adjacent end of the board 10 engages the underside of said support. The adjusting screws are then actuated to move the clamping element 21 into effective contacting engagement with the support 22, thereby holding the board immovably mounted on said support. When the board is thus mounted for use, the supporting legs 13 occupy positions obliquely with relation to the board 10, and rest upon the floor or surface. It is to be understood that the clamping elements 21 can be adjusted toward or away from the adjacent end of the board as the occasion may require, in order to permit the structure in its entirety to be used with supports of varying heights and thicknesses.

While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.

Having thus described the invention, I claim:

In combination, an ironing board, a trans verse strip secured to the underside of the board adjacent one end thereof, supporting legs pivoted on the opposite ends of said strip, the underside of each leg being bevelled at one end, inverted L-shaped brackets secured to said legs, the body portion of each bracket being secured to the bevelled portion of the adjacent leg, and having an ofi'set extremity adapted to be secured to the straight portion of said leg, said brackets having their corresponding short branches adapted to be arranged horizontally, adjusting screws passed through said short branches, a transverse bar arranged beneath said branches and supported by said screws, and adapted to be moved to- Ward and away from said branches by said screw, and a swivelled connection between each screw and said bar as described.
