l A.'G. BARREIT Er AL MAT FOR VEHICLES Filed Nov. 28, 1924 Patented Oct. 13, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED GEORGE BARRETT AND HUBERT HENRY BURTON, 0F LEICESTER, ENGLAND.
MAT FOR VEHICLES.
Application filed November 28, 1924. Serial No. 752,789.
To all 'whom t may concern.:
Be it known that we, ALFRED GEORGE BAR- RETT, a subject of the King of England, and HUBERT HENRY BURTON, a subject of the King of England, and both residents of Granby Rubber Works and Evington Valley Mills, Leicester, in the county of Leicester, England, having invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mats for. Vehicles, of which the following is a speclication.
Our invention relates to oo't mats for the Jfoot rests and running boards of motor cycles and other vehicles, and the invention aims to provide a molded shell of rubber or other yieldable material adapted to be Y mounted on the foot board of a motor cycle.
On the under side of the shell are projections adapted to engage a stiffening plate over which the shell is mounted, said stiiening plate being suitably secured to the Jfoot board. The projections on compression of the mat by the foot of a rider, under road shocks, and vibrations, will meet or bear on the stiifening plate and prevent the shell from collapsing; at the same time form cushions which enhance the shock absorbing qualities of the mat.
Reference will now be had to the drawing wherein- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the mat in a recessed `foot board;
Fig. 2 is a top plan of the mat;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the same, and
Fig. lis a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the mat.
In the drawing a4 generally designates a molded shell of rubber or other yieldable material, the wall -alwhereof constitutes vent collapse of the shell forming the mat.
-bis a recessed foot board in which the mat is mounted and retained therein by nut equipped bolts `1d. The foot board -bhas an upstanding heel wall and the mat has upstanding side lugs -a5- that cooperate with the .heel wall in forming the heel socket.
It will be noted there is a space between the foot board and the stifening plate so that said stiffening plate may yield towards the foot board under any great strain, but in actual practice the projections -w3- cushion a foot on the mat.
