To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVIS MARINSKY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Semidctached Fastenin Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the-same.
This invention relates to fastening devices for use in coupling and interlocking two arts or bodies together and particularly to astening devices of this class wherein the attaching members proper are semi-detached; and the objectof the invention is to provide a device of the class and for the purpose specified composed of separate members or parts having interlocking or coo erative elements or links, oneend portion 0 f said members or parts being coupled together by the binding element employed and the coupling of said members serving to space the adjacent end portions thereof a redetermined distance from each other; a fiurther object being to provide a device of the class specified which is so constructed as to permit of its use in connection with gloves and similar articles where a predetermined portion of the article or apparel is bound together or of unitary construction; a still further object being to provide a casing or finishing strip for devices of this class composed of material similar to the article or ap arel in connection with which the attac ing device is employed, or a casing or finishing strip of a color similar to or in harmony with the color of the article or apparel; a still further object being to provide a fastening device of the class described which is so constructed as to facilitate the manufacture of the same especially in the reduction of the manufacturing cost; and with these and other objects in View the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed and in accordance with the method herein set out.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the wrist portion of a glove showing one of my improved fastening devices mounted in connection therewith and indicating the method of its use;

In carrying my invention into effect I mount upon a strand 10 of suitable material, such for example as fibrous or metallic materlal, a plurality of links 11, said links bemg placed side by side and in juxtaposition and belng arranged in groups whlch are spaced apart on said strand, two groups belng designated as 12 and 13 in Fig. 2 of the drawing and spaced apart by the strand as shown at 14.
The links 11 in the construction shown are made in accordance with link members as shown, described and claimed in a copending application filed by me January 21, 1925, Serial No. 3739, and are composed of a comparatively large and closed loop member 11 and smaller loop members 11 and 11 which are in common axial alinement as clearly shown in Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawing, and the large loop member 11 is fashioned to form a substantially hook-shaped end portion 11.
The strand 10 constitutes a mounting ele- 95 ment for the links 11 and is preferably round in cross section and also preferably composed of strong and durable material, such for example as a li ht cable or wire which is of a size to snugl y fit in the aper- 1 tur'es formed by the loops 11 and 11, and when the links have been placed on the strand 10 in the manner illustrated in Fig.
2 and arranged in groups, the loops 11 and 11 are compressed on the strand 10, said 105 strand being correspondingly compressed as indicated at 15 in ig. 4 of the drawing to secure the links in position on the strand and to prevent movement of said links relatively thereto. .It will be noted that the loops 11" ,110

The number of the apertures 17 in the separate groups 18 and 19 will correspond with the number of links in the separate groups 12 and 13 whereby when the casing or strip 16 is mounted upon the strand 14 and the loops 11. of the links are passed through the apertures 17 of the respect ve groups, the non-apertured portion 20 Wlll be in alinement with the portion 14 of the strand 10. It will be noted that the side portions of the casing 16 are folded one upon the other after the loops 11 have been passed therethrough and said side portions are stltched together as indicated at 21 in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
It will be understood from the ioregoing description that the strand 10 may be made up in short lengths on which the groups 12 and 13 only are applied or the strand may be made up of indefinite lengths with the groups arranged continuously thereon, the
rtions 14 of the strand being cut to subdivide the strand into portions having thereon the groups 12 and 13 of links and the casing or finishing strip may be similarly formed, that is to say, may be made up in lengths suitable for the two groups of apertures 17 or said apertures continuously arranged on said strip, and when the stri has been applied to the strand a fastening evice made according to my invention is formed thereby. It will be understood that a suitable coupling block 22 will be employed for movin the links 11 of the separate groups 12 an 13 into and 'out of engagement in the usual manner in devices of this class.
The attaching device formed in the manner above set out may be used in connection with any suitable article or wearing apparel for coupling and uncoupling two parts or bodies and, in the construction shown, in Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have illustrated one method of carrying my invention into effect and have shown in said figure the wrist portion 23 of a glove which is slotted as indicated at 24 in the usual manner to permit of the insertion of the hand into the glove, and the separate side portions 25 and 26 formed by the slot 24 are adapted to be brought together or separated by my imroved attaching device. In this use of my mvention, the casing or finishing strip 16, or that portion thereof through which the group 12 of links is mounted, is placed upon the edge of the side portion 25 and stitched in harmony therewith.

It will be understood that when the block 22 is in its innermost position "or adjacent to the enlargement of the slit 24 thereof a hand may be inserted into or out of the glove, and in securing the glove in position the block 22 is moved in its outermost osition as partially illustrated in Fig. 1 o the drawing, and in the last named positionit will be ap arent that the hook portions 11 of the lin 11 of one group 12 interldck with the corresponding hook portions of the links of the other group 13 and prevent the separation of the separate groups.
It will be understood that while I have shown and described one use of my invention and a specific form of link, that I am not necessarily limited in this respect nor am I limited to any s ecific method of constructing and assembling the structure herein set out, the distinctive feature of my invention being what I term a semi-detached fastening device and the method of making the same, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made, Within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacri ficing its advantages.
It will also be apparent that by reason of my improved method of constructing an attaching device and especially when a metallic strand or binder is employed for coupling the separate groups of links together, that a coating or plating of suitable material, as for example, a coating of paint or enamel or metallic coating such as nickel, silver, gold or platinum may be readily aplied to the links and to the strand, if .esired, by the usual processes and prior device has been to the mounting of the fabric strip 16 on said strand, and by reason of this construction the ex osed portions of the links, especially, may Be colored in harmony with the ro uct in connection with which the attac ing device is used or may be given an expensive plating to .give the same greater va no in some uses of the invention.
Havin fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the class described comprising a strand, a plurality of links mountedon and secured to said strand with the projecting parts of said links in predetermined spaced relation, said links being arranged on said strand in groups and that part of the links of each group mounted on said strand being 'in juxtaposition and abutting, and the se arate groups bein cou led one with the ot er by said stran to orm a unitary structure thereof, and an attaching strip adapted to be mounted on said strand and that portion of the links thereon.
2. A device of the class described comprising a strand, a plurality of links mounted on and secured to said strand with the projecting parts of said links in predetermined spaced relation, said links being arranged on said strand in groups and that part of the links of each group mounted on said strand being in juxtaposition and abutting and the separate grou s bein coupled one with the other by sai stran to form a unitary structure thereof, an attaching strip adapted to be mounted on said strand, and means for retaining said strand and links against displacement on said strip.
3. A device of the class described comprising a strand, a plurality of links mounted on and secured to said strand with the projecting parts of said links in predetermined spaced relation, said links being arranged on said strand in groups and that part of the links of each group mounted on said strand being in juxtaposition and abutting and the separate groups bein coupled one with the other by said stran to form a unitary structure thereof, and an attaching stri provided with spaced apertures arrange in groups and the links of the separate groups on said strand being adapted to pass through the respective groups of apertures whereby said strip will form a casin for said strand and that portion of the links mounted thereon.

A device of the class described comprising a strand of predetermined material, links provided with two loops, said strand ing adapted to be passed through one of the loops of said links in mounting the links on said strand, said loops being in juxtapositior and abutting on said strand and said links being arranged on the strand in groups and being secured thereto with the other loops of the links in spaced relation.
5. A device of the class described comprising a strand of predetermined material, links provided withtwo loops, said strand being adapted to be passed through one of the loops of said links in mounting the links on said strand, with said loops in juxtaposition and abutting said links being arranged on the strand in groups and being secured thereto with predetermined portions of the links in spaced relation, that portion of the strand between the respective groups serving to couple said groups together to form a unitary structure thereof, and an attaching strip fashioned to receive the projecting portions of the links infithe I respective groups and to form acasingQfor said strand.
6. A device of the class described comprising a strand of predetermined material, links provided with two loops, said strand being adapted to be passed through one of the loops of said links in mounting the links on said strand, with said loops in juxtaposition and abuttin said links bein arranged on the stran in groups andi 'feing secured thereto with 'redetermmed portions of the links in spaced relation, that portion of the strand between the respective groups serving to couple said groups together to form a unitary structure thereof, an attach ing strip fashioned to receive the projecting portions of the links in the respective groups, and to form a casing for said strand, andfi to dprovide means for mounting the strand an groups of links in connection with a" predetermined support.

A fastening device of the class ile-' scribed comprising two coupling bodies Ste-"" cured to a unitary binder and coupled together by said binder, means mounted on said coupling bodies for moving the same into and out of engagement, said coupling? bodies comprising independently formed coupling members, mounted on said binder in abutting relation said coupling members being fashioned to interlock when the said bodies are coupled together, and a finishing and attaching strip mounted upon the binder of said bodies and encircling that portion of the coupling members mounted thereon.;'

A fastening device of the class described comprising two coupling bodies secured to a binder composed of a flexible strand and 12 a flexible attaching strip folded around and enclosing said strand, and said bodies being coupled together by said binder. 9. A fastening device of the class described com rising two coupling bodies se- 12 cured to a binder composed of a flexible strand and a flexible attaching strip folded around and enclosing said strand and through which (parts of the coupling bodies are passed, sai bodies being coupled togather by said binder, and means mounted on said coupling bodies for moving the same into an out of engagement.

A fastening device of the class described comprising two couplin bodies secured to a binder composed o a flexible strand and a flexible attaching strip folded around and enclosin said strand and through which arts the coupling bodies are passed, said bodies being coupled together by said binder means mounted on said coupling bodies for moving the same into and out of engagement, and said coupling bodies comprising independently formed coupling members and that part of said members on said strand being in abutting relation.

A fastening device of the class described comprising two coupling bodies secured to a binder composed of a flexible strand and a flexible attaching strip folded around and enclosing said strand, and through which parts of the coupling bodies are passed, sai bodies being coupled together by said binder, means mounted on said coupling bodies for moving the same into and out of engagement, said couplin bodies comprising independently forme coupling members, and that part of said members on said strand being in abutting relation and said cou ling members being fashioned to interloc when said bodies are coupled to ether.

A fastening device of the class 'descrlbed comprising two coupling bodies secured to a binder composed of flexible material and coupled together thereby, each of said coupling bodies comprising a plurality of independently formed wire link members, and that portion of said link members mounted on said binder being in abutting relation in the separate coupling bodies.
