SHOE-POLISHING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES BLUMEL, a citizen of Austria, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Shoe-Polishing Device, of which the following is a specification, the same being a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to apparatus for imparting a gloss to articles, and in particular to a device made of a single piece of wire having for its object, in use, the polishing ,by friction of the surface of a shoe, boot, etc. by the employment of, and application thereto, of a soft, flexible piece of cloth or strip of fabric, the wire frame being so bent as to prevent the rumpling'of the cloth strip and also to provide a foot rest.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for readily holding the said strip in such a manner as to polish both the toe and heel portions of the shoe without having to stoop in the ordinary manner.

A still further object of the invention is to make a device of the class described which shall be of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in practical use.

With these objects of the invention, and other objects and purposes which will be described below, in view, the invention consists in the construction, arrangement, combination and operation of parts hereinafter set forth.

In the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification, and which embody one application of the invention Figure 1 represents a plan view of an article constructed according to my inven tion; and Figure 2 is an elevation of the same.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, my shoe polishing device consists of two sections joined together, the wire comprising one section being deflected in a manner corresponding to the conformation of the wire of the other section. The numeral 1 denotes the base of one section which is equipped with an orifice 2 at the back part thereof and at the front with a floor rest 8, after which it is bent rearwardly to form a guide wire 3 which terminates in a raised hook 4.

Adjacent to the floor rest 7 the wire 1 is bent upwardly to join one section 5 of the foot rest which is preferably bent so as to conform in shape, generally speaking, with one side of the sole of a shoe.

At the forward part of the foot rest the wire 5 is deflected downwardly to form a floor rest 9 preferably made as an eyelet 6 and is then turned in an upwardmanner to join the side 5 of the foot rest of the other section which is also bent to conform in shape with the other side of the sole of a shoe. At the heel of the foot rest the wire 5 is deflected downwardly to join the base 1 of the said second section which is provided with an orifice 2 and a floor rest 7 and the wire then'extends forwardly to provide a floor rest 8 after which it passes rearwardly and upwardly to form a guide wire 3' and at the extreme rearward part thereof it is bent upwardly to form a hook 4'.

By the use of the above described two sections I provide a duel foot rest 5, 5, a duel base 1, 1 therefor, dual side guiding means 3, 3, and also dual rear hook guiding means 4, 4 for a strip of cloth or other fabric while being used for shoe polishing purposes, each of said sections comprising one member of the base, one member of'the foot rest and one member of the side and rear cloth guiding means. The orifices 2, 2 and eyelet 6 serve as means whereby the shoe polishing device may be attached to any suitable or desired support.

In practice, the device is placed upon the floor or other suitable surface and the foot is placed upon the foot rest 5, 5 after which the strip of flexible material as cloth or other fabric is threaded on opposite sides of the device between the base section 1 and guide 8, and the base section 1' and guide 3 so as to lie upon the top of the shoe, and by grasping the ends of the strip and by drawing it rapidly back and forth over the top and sides of the shoe, the latter will be polished with but little exertion on the part of the operator. To polish the heel the strip is slid along on the guides rearwardly so as to become threaded in the hooks 4, 4' thereby passing over the heel whereby by manipulating the cloth in a like manner the heel may be likewise easily and readily polished in an efficient manner.

I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the particular use or the exact details of construction shown and describedg' for obvious modifications will occur to persons skilled in the art.

What I claim as my'invention is A shoe polishing device comprising a foot;
