Description

Oct. 13, 1925. 1,556,851 A. KULAS GAME Filed March 24. 1922 Patented Oct. 13, 1 925.
PATENT OFFICE.
. ANDREW KULAS, 0F MARPLE, NEBRASKA.
GAME.
Application filed March24, 1922. Serial No. 546,260.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that AN REW KULAs, citizen of Germany, residing at Marple, in the county of Box Butte and State of Nebraska, has invented certain new and useful Improvements: in Games, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to games and has for its object to provide a game, which will be both interesting and instructive. Also to provide a game which is of a geographical nature and comprises a colored map of the Atlantic Ocean, showing its eastern and western shores, and adjacent the shores, different ports; small spherically shaped differently colored members, which represent ships, and adapted to be made, by tilting the device, to roll into the different ports.
A further object is to convey to the mind of the player that the ships of European nations will eventually come to the ports of America and hence the foreign commerce of America enlarged.
A further object is to provide a device of this character, which will attract the young, and by reason of its entertaining qualities and its geographical nature will impart knowledge of that part of the earths surface shown by the device, and stimulate a desire to know more about the rest of the earths surface, not shown by the device.
A further object is to provide a device of this nature representing a portion of the earths surface, the body portion of which .is round, the inside of the bottom, showing a map of the Atlantic Ocean, ports of the different countries shown by indentations in the bottom, colored spherical members to represent ships, an outside wall and a glass top to form a complete closure to prevent the escape of the spherical members.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan View of the game.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective View of a portion of the body member showing one group of the lugs for securing the glass top in position.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a. round body member of the game and 2 an upwardly extending annular flange carried thereby. The flange is preferably formed integrally wvith the body member and stamped from the same piece of material. The map is preferably stamped directly on the member 1, however it is to be understood that the map may be printed on paper and adhesively secured thereto. The map shows the Atlantic Ocean, the west coast 3 of the Atlantic Ocean, each country bordering thereon be ing shown in different colors, and 4: designates ports of the different countries, which ports are formed by indentations in the bottom 5 of the body member 1. The east coast of the Atlantic is designated by the numeral 6, and the main ports of entry of the different countries of said east coast are represented by indentations 7 in the bottom 5 of the body member 1. Loosely confined within the body member are differently col o-red spherical members 8,. which members represent ships, and may, by tilting the device as a whole, be rolled into the different ports 4 and 7. Disposed on the inside of the annular flange 2 at diametrically opposite points are spaced lugs 9, which lugs are formed by cutting and bending a portion of the flange 2 to a horizontal position inwardly. Disposed between each group of spaced lugs 9 is an inwardly extending lug 10, which is preferably formed integral with the flange 2 and in the same horizontal plane as the lug 9 and adapted to engage the upper face of the glass cover 12. The lugs 10 may be bent to a vertical position to allow the glass top 12 to be placed in position on the spaced lugs 9, and then again bent back to horizontal positions over the upper surface of the top 12, thus firmly securing the glass top in position and against displacement.
In operation the spherical members 8 are assembled preferably at the lower side of the device as at 13, and then by tilting the device, the spherical members may be made to roll into the indentations 4; and 7, which represent ports of the different countries as shown by different colors on either the east or west coast, thus causing the spherical members 8, which rep-resent the ships to call at the different ports of the diflerent coun tries, and eventually to call at the ports of North America. If so "desired ships may first be started from the foreign ports represented by the numeral 7 to the American ports represented by the numeral 4.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful, is zf A game comprising a circular shaped box formed from one piece of flexible metal, a bottom in said box, a side well formed integral with the bottom, a round glass top disposed Within the box, lugs formed from a portion of said side Wall by cutting said side wall and bending the lugs inwardly to or zqntal P s t on n spaced at o to a h w en. and e 1; fr m t e t p f the side Wall, said lugs engaging the under surfap of the glass te edjaicent its edge and adjacent each other, lugs formed from the side Wall and disposed above and between the first mentioned lugs and engaging the upper side the gla p, said last named lugs being adapted to be bent to Vertical positions for allowingremoval of theglass top and to horizontal positions for holding the glass top securely in pla fir In testimony where f I: ereu to af ix my signature.
