Application December 27, 1932 Serial No. 648,938
1 Claim. -(Cl. 273 -109) This invention relates to amusement devices, and more particularly to a puzzle. 7
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an entertaining puzzle of simple and inexpensive 6 construction, comprising a plurality of small objects, such as differently colored balls or beads, loosely'held in a trough-like structure and adapted to be disposed in difierent predetermined arrangements by movement of the trough. 10
construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of i this specification, in which:--
Figure l is a top plan view of one embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof on the line 22 of Figure 1; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a modification.
Referring now to the drawing, in which similar numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views, 10l0 are two mutually inclined side walls converging to form a substantially V-shaped trough 11, the trough being closed at both ends by end-walls 12.
The top 13 has a window cut or formed therein which window is permanently closed with a sheet or pane 14 of transparent material, such as glass, isinglass, cellophane or the like, the transparent sheet or pane 14 being suitably securedto the top or cover 13.
Loosely held'in the bottom of the trough 11 are a plurality of small objects 15 and 16. Preferably these objects are small balls or beads, an
even number being employed, half of which are marked or colored distinctively from the other half. In the present instance, I have shown a puzzle having ten balls 15 and 16, of which five The invention consists in the novel features,
are red (15) and five are white (16) The object of the puzzle is to arrange the balls in a distinct predetermined order in a row in the bottom of the trough. For :example, the balls may be arranged so that half the row is formed of balls of onecolor, and the other half of balls of another color, or the balls may be arranged to alternate in color.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the troughlike structure is contained in an outer casing 17 which may be square, oblong, round, or of any other desired shape and of any suitable material. The arrangement of the balls in the desired order is effected by shaking the trough or tapping the container. Such action causes the balls to roll around in the trough and in this manner, with the exercise of skill, theballs may be disposed in a row in'the bottom of the troubh in any selected arrangement.
' It is to be understood that various modifications in the details of construction and arrangement of parts herein described and illustrated may be made without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
What I- claim is:-
A puzzle comprising a box-like container having two mutually inclined walls meeting at their lower edges to form a substantially V-shaped trough, end walls closing the ends of the trough, a transparent cover closing the top of the trough, and a plurality of bodies held loosely within the container and adapted to be arranged in predetermined order in the bottom angle of the trough by shaking. movements of the container, said bodies being distinctively marked or colored.
MEREDITH CLARK.
