Description

MANSON TOY Filed June 21, 1923 Patented Oct. 13 1925.
UNITED STATES ADOLPH L. Manson, on NEW You, H. Y.
TOY.
Application flled lnne 21, 1928. Serial No. 646,859.
To all whom it may concern: I y
Be it known that LADOLPH L. Manson, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York'and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Toy, of which the following'is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and more especially to a toy of that character requir- 1 ing theexercise of considerable skill in the manipulation thereof.
One o'f the objects of the invention is to provide a toy utilizing a stem portion adapted to be held in the hand, and a block connected by a cord or the like to the stem portion, the block being provided with an opening to receive the stem when said block is tossed into the air and the stem is properly guided toward it. a
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described a and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawin s- I Figure 1 is a side elevation of the toy.
Figure 2 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section showing the stem seated within the block. Referring to the figures by' characters of reference 1 designates a handle from which projects a stem 2 having a' pointed end 3,
there being an annular enlargement or collar 4 on the stem near the handle and forming an abutment.
Secured to the stem 2 between the handle 1 and the collar 4 is one end of a cord 5 or other flexible device the other end of which is extended into the center of one end of a substantially cylindrical block 6. This block dle. a.
has a longitudinal bore 7 extending thereinto from one end, the cord being extended at the other end of the block and having a knot 8 at its end so as to prevent withdrawal of the cord from the block. This knot is located in the inner end of the bore 7 The diameterof the bore is such as to receive readily the stem" 2. The open end of the bore 7 is preferably flared as shown at 9 and the ends of the block are preferably rounded as shown at 10.
In using the toy the handle 1 is held in the hand and the block 6 is swung upwardly. The attempt is then made to direct the stem 2 into the flared end 90f the bore 7. As the cord 5 is connected to that end of the block remote from the open end of the bore considerable diflicnlty will obviously be experienced in inserting the stem 2 into the bore.
it is to be understood that if desired the bore 7 can be extended entirely through the block or can be extended any preferred distance into the block. Furthermore the handle may or may not be provided with a collar such as shown. at 4. Also the cord 5 can be attached wherever desired and at one or more points. 4
What is claimed is A toy including a block having a central longitudinal bore of uniform diameter throughout its length, said bore being closed at one end and'having its other end flared, a handle, a'- stem projecting therefrom of a diameter slightly less than that of the bore, said stem being tapered at its free end, there being an annular collar upon the stem adapted to snugly engage the flared end wall of the bore when the stem is seated in the block, and a cord threaded through and secured within the closed end of the bore, the other end of the cord being attached to the han- In testimony that I claim theforegoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed'my signature.
ADOLPH L. MANSON.
