I nEN'rIs'rs 'I'LATER.
A pplicationfiledFebruary 28,1924. Serial No. 695,668; a
T all whom it may concern." I
Be it known that I, ROBERT W. BLAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and by dentists and others who desire to electro-- plate small articles and at thesame tim (16- sire to have a readily portable machine which may be used and after use maybe closedand put out of the way. 7 ,For the purpose ofdisciosing my invention I have illustrated one embodiment thereof in-the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is'a perspective view-of an apparatus embodying myinvention.
r In the structure illustrated- I provide 'a container which is'preferably in the form of a rectangular box l p'rovided intermediate ofits top' and: bottom vwith afshelff2 which divides the box into a top compart: mentS andzabottom compartment4.- The box is provided with-a hinged box-like cover 5' mounted on hinges 6 at therear of the box,
or casing 1,and'held against drOppingjbeyond a predetermined open, position, by'the chain' or other latching mechanism-7. The front end 8 of-the boxis removable andto this end is secureda pair oflis-lide members 9 telescoping the bottom compartment 4 and,
' mounted between these side members 9. at
the front end thereof, is a pocket formed by abottom board, or ;shelf- 10, secured at the bottom of the front end of the slide members -9 and a vertically I extending -end member 11 secured between the slides 9, whereby the front member 8 and the member';11 form sides of an open topped pocket for the reception of tools.
The electro-plating container preferably consists of a glass bowl 12 having mounted thereon and extending therethrough, the electrode terminals 13 and 14 which are respectively provided on their inner ends with binding screws to receive the electrodes and on the outer ends with binding screws to permit the connection to the terminals of the respective conductors 15 and 16 leading to the binding posts 17 and 18 which are mounted on the shelf 2. One of the binding posts, 18, leads to one of the terminals of ment-A'beneath the shelf, and the opposite post 17 {leads through an ordinary snap switch 20 to the opposite terminal of these batteries. One or more batteries maybe provided and where more th'an one battery is provided, th batteries, of course, are con nected inseries. The switch 20, when in a raised position, is adapted vto-close the cir cuitthrough the, batteries to the electrodes,
" the batteries-19 mounted thel compart- :9,
and in order-to insure-the opening of the :A
circuit when'the cabinet or container is closed, I provide a finger 21 OI1 tl 1Q,bOttOIII face of the cover 5 which, -when thefcover is lowered to closed position will engage the -switch'2O and move the same toopen the circuit ofthe electrodes;
The cover 5 is provided oneach side with a pair of fastener-s22 which, when the cover is closed, are adapted to fasten over the pins 23 of the hookmembers mounted, on a;
the'sidesof the container, and the end 8 is provided with a projecting finger 2 f which, when the cover is closed, engages behindthe cover to prevent this-member, from "being withdrawn. I In order to provide a convenient re cep taole for the electrolytic fluid, I provide on the shelf 2, a pocket 25 formedby a vertical sidemember '26 spaced apart from the rear wall ,of the} container This pocket} is adapted to,receive a suitable containedor; bottle, 27 containing the electrolytic fluid. If it' is desired,, a suitable .handle, not shown, maybe provided on the ,cover5' to permit readyv transportation, of- .thecon tainer. Y
teries 19 are so spaced fromthe ends of the -bottom of the container and the shelf 2 that sufficient spaceis allowed to accomodate the pocket formed by the wall 11. i it will, be seen that when theendflwall 8. is closed, the wall 11 will come sufliciently into contact with the ends of the batteries to prevent longitudinal movement of the bat- Furthermore,
It will be ma that ,t elad tr. the bat? teries during transportation. In order to lower compartment and provided with a hinged cover and with a removable end wall, said container being divided into two compartments by a horizontally disposed shelf, an electro-plating container mounted in the upper compartment upon said shelf and provided with electrode terminals extending through the walls thereof and having binding posts on the exterior, a pair of binding posts mounted upon the upper surface of said shelf, electric batteries mounted in the bottom compartment of the container and having their terminals respectively connected to said binding posts, said end member and cover being arranged, When closed, to completely enclose and protect all of the parts of the apparatus within the casing and when open, to permit access respectively to the batteries in the bottom compartment and to the electro-plating container.
2. A portable self-contained electro-plating apparatus, comprising an enclosing casing divided horizontally into an upper and lower compartment and provided with a hinged cover and with a removable end wall, said container being divided into two compartments by a horizontally disposed shelf, an electro-plating container mounted in the upper compartment upon said shelf and provided with electrode terminals extending through the walls thereof and having binding posts on the exterior, a pair of binding posts mounted upon the upper surface of said shelf, electric batteries mounted in the bottom compartment of the container and having their terminals respectively connected to said binding posts, said end member and cover being arranged, when closed, to completely enclose and protect all of the parts of the apparatus within the casing and when open, to permit access respectively to the batteries in the bottom compartment and to the electro-plating container, a switch on said shelf for controlling the circuit from the batteries to the electrodes, and means on the cover for opening said switch when the cover is moved into closed position.
3. A portable self-contained electro-plating apparatus, comprising an enclosing casing divided horizontally into an upper and lower compartment and provided with a hinged cover and with a removable end wall,
said container being divided into two compartments by a horizontally disposed shelf, an electro-plating container mounted in the upper compartment upon said shelf, a pair of binding posts mounted upon the upper surface of said shelf, electrodes associated with said binding posts and with said container, electric batteries mounted in the bottom compartment of the container and having their terminals respectively connected to the binding posts, said end member and cover being arranged, when closed, to completely enclose and protect all of the parts of the apparatus within the casing and when open, to permit access respectively to the batteries. in the bottom compartment and to the electro-plating container.
4. A portable self-contained electro-plating apparatus, comprising an enclosing casing divided horizontally into an upper and lower compartment and provided with a suitable cover and with a removable end wall, said container being divided into two compartments by a horizontally disposed shelf, an electro-plating container mounted on the upper compartment upon said shelf and provided with electrodes, electric batteries mounted in the bottom compartment of the container and having their terminals respectively connected to the electrodes of the container, said end member being provided on its inner face with a suitable pocket and the ends of said batteries lying a sufficient distance away from the end of the compartment to accommodate the pocket on said removable end wall, the inner end wall of said pocket being arranged to prevent, when the container end wall is closed, longitudinal displacement of the batteries, and said end member and cover being arranged, when closed, to completely enclose and protect all of the parts of the apparatus within the casing and when open, to permit access respectively to the batteries in the hot-tom compartment and to the electro-plating container.
In witness whereof I, ROBERT W. BLAKE, have hereunto set my hand at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 21st day of February, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and twenty four.
ROBERT W. BLAKE.
