To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, J OI-IN F. ELLIOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allerton, in the county of VVa'yne and State of-Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Track Liners, of which the following is a specification.
Thisl invention relates to an improved track liner and seeks, among otherobjects, to'pro'vide a device of this character which will be quick in action while, at the same time, ample leverage will be present to accomplish the work. a
The invention seeks, as a further'object, to provide a device which may be readily employed not only for raising or lowering a t-rackb-ut alsor for shif-ting'the track/laterally. I
And the invention seeks, as a still further object, to provide a device wherein excess weight will be" eliminatedso that the device may be readily handled in practical use while, at thesame time, the device will be strong and durable.

In carrying the invention into effect, I employ a base plate 10 on which is formed or otherwise secured a plurality of spurs 11 and rising from the base plate medially thereof is a longitudinally directed bracket plate 12 having a concave forward edge. At the forward end of the plate 12, the base plate is provided with a notch 13 and, as will be observed, the portions of the base plate at opposite sides of the notch are beveled, as indicated at 14. Pivoted upon the forward end of the plate 12 at its upper extremity is a lifting arm 15 provided at its upper end with ears 16 straddling said plate and extending through the ears and through the plate is a pivot pin 17 Formed on the arm 15 at its lower end is a forwardly directed downwardly inclined toe otherwise roughened and, as will be ob served, the arm 15 is of; such length that when'swung downwardly, the toe 19 will be received in the notch 13 of the base plate 10. At its'u'ptending between the yokes and the arm 15 at opposite sides thereof are links 26 pivotally connected with the yokes and with the arm by pivot pins 27 and, preferably, the yokes, links and arm are bushed to receive the pins. Likewise, the ears 16 of the arm as well as the plate 12 are preferably bushed to accommodate the pin 17. Undue wear upon the parts will thus be eliminated and, as will now be seen, after the device has been positioned-adjacent a track, the lever 20 may be operated for swinging the arm 15 upwardly to engage the toe 19 of the arm beneath the adjacent track rail when by swinging the lever downwardly the track may be tilted upwardly or lifted. In like manner, the device may be employed for crowding the track laterally.
In Figures 4: and 5 of the drawings, I have illustrated a slight modification of the invention wherein I employ a base plate 28 having spurs 29 and formed in the plate at its forward end is a medial notch 30. Rising from the base plate at opposite sides of said notch are bracket plates 31 in which is pivoted a lifting arm 32 similar to the arm 15 of the prior embodiment of the invention and provided at its lower end with a downwardly inclined toe 33 normally accommodated in the notch Pivoted between the plates 31 in the rear of the arm is a lever 34 provided at its upper end with a squared socket 35 to remova-b'ly receive a handle and connecting the lower end of the lever with the lower end portion of the 32 is a link 36. Thus, the lever may be swung for operating the lifting arm and, as will be observed, the plates 31 are provided with spaced openings to selectively receive the pivot pin of thelever while the lever is itself also provided with spaced openings to receive the pin so that the ful crum point of the lever may be shifted.
Having thus described the invention, What I claim is:
1. In a track linen, the combination of a base plate having a bracket plate rising therefrom, a hand lever pivoted at a point between its ends upon the bracket plate, a lifting arm pivoted at its upper end upon the bracket plate forwardly of the pivot point of the lever, and means secured to the forward end portion of the lever and to the lower end portion of the arm connecting the lever and arm to swing in unison and movable to closely approach an alined position with respect to the lever as the lower end of the arm is swung upwardly.
2. In a track liner, the combination of a base plate having a bracket plate rising therefrom, a hand lever having a fork straddling the bracket plate and pivoted at a point between its ends thereon, a lifting arm pivoted at its upper end upon said bracket plate forwardly of the pivot point of the lever, and links secured to the free ends of said fork and to the lower end portion of the arm connecting the lever and. arm toswing in unison andmovable to closely approach an alined position with respe'ct to the lever as the lower end of the arm isswung upwardly, I
3. In a track liner, the combination of a base plate provided at its forward end with a notch and having a bracket plate rising therefrom to overhang said notch, a hand lever pivoted at a point between its ends upon the bracket plate, a lifting arm pivoted at its upper end upon the bracket plat'e above the notch and provided at its lower end with a toe normally ac'coinmodatedin the notch, and means secured to the forward end portion of the lever and to the lower end portion of the arm connecting the lever and arm to swing in unison and movable to closely approach an alin'ed position with respect to the lever as the lower end of the arm is swung upwardly.
