BLADE MOUNTING FOR CLIPPERS.
Application filed December 1, 1924. Serial No. 753,211.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, LEO J. WAHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sterling, in the county of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Blade Mountings for Clippers, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying m drawings, forming a part of this specification. 1
My invention relates to hair clippers and more particularly to a blade mounting for clippers.
'vlde a new and improved mountlng for the movable blade of a hair clipper so as to reduce the friction in the connection between the means for reciprocating the blade and go said blade so as to obtain a more easily oper-- ating device and a device that has a higher efficiency than has previously been the case.
My invention relates particularly to a blade mounting for electric clippers com- I prising a vibratoryelement that is vibrated by electro-magnetic means, said vibratory element being connected with the movable blade, my invention having for its purpose to provide amounting for the clipper blade on the vibratory member so that there is a minimum of friction in the connection. This is quite important as the less friction there is in the movable parts of the device, the easier it is to properly tune the vibratory member.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description of the accompanying drawings proceeds. How
ever, I desire to have it distinctly understood that I do not intend to limit myself to the exact details shown or described, but that I intend to include as part of'my invention all such obvious changes and modifications of parts as would occur to. a person skilled in this art and as would fall within the scope of the claims.

Referring in detail to the drawings, my improved clipper comprises a casing 10 upon which is mounted the stationary or fixed blade 11 at one end thereof. Mounted within the casing is an electro-magnet having the coil 12 with which the armature 13 cooperates, the coil 12 vibrating said armature due to the provision of the spring member 14 on the end thereof which is secured to the casing by the'securing member 15.
The vibratory member 13 has a transversely extending end portion 16 to which is secured an angular bracket 17, said bracket beingsecured by any suitable securing means such as the screws 18. Mounted.

Mounted on said block and secured in position by said screws are the spring clips and with upstanding ends 24 that are bent back on themselves as at '25 to provide a depending finger portion 26, thus providing in effect a double spring portion on each of the members 22. The portions 26 are slightly spaced and the end portion 27 of the bracket 17 extends between the same; end portion 27 is cut away to form a reduced finger portion 28 extending from the top edge thereof outwardly beyond the body portionof the member 17. The portion 28 is substantially square in cross section as will be clear from. Fig. 4 and operates in a slot 29 in the block 20, the block 20 being slightly widened as at 30 to provide sufficient material on all sides of the slot 29. The forward edge of the member 27 below said the finger 28 is cut away so as to incline slightly toward the rear of the bracket as will be clear from F ig- 2, said cut away portion being indicated by the numeral 31 and being provided to space the forward end 27 0f the member 17 from the block 20.
By providing the finger 28 operating in the slot 29, the friction between the springs 26 and the member 17 is reduced to a minimum. In operation, as the blade 19 reciprocates, it is tending to travel in a slightly arcuate path substantially about a center where the member lat is secured to the casing by means of the securing means 15. Also due to the distance between the blades, the blade 19 substantially engages flatly with the blade 11. This causes a tilting of the member 17 relative to the blade to the right and left of the position shown in Fig. 3 against the tension of the springs 26. This movement is allowed for by means of the slot 29.
Furthermore, due to the fact that, the blade 19 engages flatly against the blade 11 as the blade travels to the opposite ends of its movement in its reciprocation, the member 17 tilts substantially about the end of the finger 28 relative to the block 20 and it is this tilting motion that causes friction be tween the spring members 26 and the end of the blade 27. By provision of the finger 28 adjacent one edge of the member 17, the lever arm of this movement is made as small as is possible without affecting the flexibility of the mounting of the blade 19. Thus the etfect of the friction of the springs 26 against the sides of the member 17 isreduced as much as is possible without detracting anything from the flexible mounting of the blade.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a clipper, a stationary blade, 9. blade movable transversely of said stationary blade, means for reciprocating said movable blade comprising a connection having a single finger thereon and a member mounted to move with said movable blade having an opening therein with which said finger engages.
2. In a clipper, a stationary blade, a blade movable transversely of said stationary blade, means for reciprocating said movable blade comprising a connection having a finger thereon and a member mounted to move with saidmovable blade having an opening therein with which said finger engages, said member having a pair of clips engaging with opposite sides of said connection.
3. In a clipper, a stationary blade, a blade movable transversely of said stationary blade, means for reciprocating said movable blade comprising a connection having a f'mger thereon and a member mounted to move with said movable blade having an opening therein with which said finger engages, said member having a pair of clips engaging with oppositesides of said connection, said connection being otherwise free of said member.
4. In a clipper, a stationary blade, a blade movable transversely of said stationary blade, means for reciprocating said movable blade comprising a connection having a single finger thereon and a member mounted to move with said movable blade having a slot extending in the direction of movementthereof therein with which said finger engages.
5. In a clipper, a stationary blade, a blade movable transversely of said stationary blade, means for reciprocating said movable blade comprising a connection having a single finger thereon and a member mounted to move with said movable blade having an opening therein with which said finger engages, said member having a pair of resilient clips .engaging with opposite sides of said connection.
6. In a clipper, a stationary blade, a movable blade, a block mounted on said movable blade having an opening therein, a pair of clips on said block, means for reciprocating said blade comprising a member engaging between said clips and a finger on said mem ber engaging in said opening.
7 In a clipper, a stationary blade, a movable blade, a block mounted on said movable blade having a slot therein, a pair of clips on 'said block, means for reciprocating said blade comprising a member engaging between said clips and a finger on said member engaging in said slot.
8. Ina clipper, a stationary blade, a movable blade, a block mounted on said movable blade having an opening therein, a pair of clips on said block, means for reciprocating said blade comprising a member engaging between said clips and a finger on said member adjacent one edge thereof engaging in said opening.
9. In a clipper, a stationary blade, a movable blade, a block mounted on said movable blade having an opening therein, a pair of clips on said block, means for reciprocating said blade comprising a member engaging between said clips and a finger on said member at the extreme outer end thereof engaging in said opening.
10. In a clipper, a stationary blade, a movable blade. a block mounted on said movable blade having an opening therein, a pair of clips on said block, means for reciprocating said blade comprising a member engaging between said clips and a finger on said member adjacent one edge thereof engaging in said opening, said member being cut away to provide clearance between said member and said block.
