- UNITED STATES WILLIAM DITZ, OF SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
CIGAR-BOX COVER.
3 Application filed October 13, 1924. Serial No. 748,509.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM Drrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Box Covers, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to cigar box covers and its principal object is to provide a cover provided with a humidifying receptacle for retaining the cigars or tobacco contained in the box in a moist state.
A ,further object of the invention is to provide an attachment for cigar boxes which will entirely close the cigar box and at the same time serve as a humidifying agent for the contents of the box.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a cover attachment for cigar boxes which is adapted to be associated with the usual cigar box cover and raised and closed by manipulating the box cover.
WVith the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement of parts and operations to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective of a cigar box equipped with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein corresponding characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates a conventional cigar box provided with a hinged lid or cover 6.
My invention comprises a glass cover 10 formed with an upwardly and angularly extending flange 11 at its rear longitudinal edge which extends parallel tothe cover 6' and terminates in oppositely extending hooks or U-shaped extensions 12 that engage the transverse edges of the cover 6 as illustrated. As shown in Figure 1, this manner of attaching the glass cover 10- to the lid 6 disposes the cover upon the upper edges of the box and entirely closes the same.
The invention also contemplates a humidifier for the cigars or tobacco contained in the box and to that end the cover 10 is formed with a raised semi-circular humidifying chamber 13. In this instance the humidifying chamber 13 is formed in the shape of a cigar and if desired may be colored to increase its likeness to a cigar.
Formed with the inner longitudinal edge of the semi-circular humidifying chamber 13 and located in horizontal alinement with the.
From the disclosure it will be seen that I have provided a neat and attractive cover for cigar boxes wherein the contents thereof may be readily viewed and wherein sufiicient moisture will be applied to the cigars to keep the same in a moist state, and also the device can be readily associated with any conventional cigar box on the market without in anyway afiecting the appearance of the same or its contents.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that changes in the conbody, a hollow semi-circular in cross sec- 7 tion member formed therewith, a transversely curved lip formed with the body and extending partly across the hollow member and spaced from its opposite sides, to define a passageway, and a porous element insertible through the passageway and accommodated between the hollow member and lip.
3. A humidifying attachment for cigar 5 boxes comprising a cover to overlie the box,
a longitudinally extending substantially tubular humidifying chamber formed with the cover and having a longitudinally extending passageway at one side of its underface whereby an absorbent element may be in- 10 serted into thesubstantially tubular member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILLIAM DITZ.
