IBILLIARD-CUE-CHALKING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, W'ILLIAM B. BECKER and @RLANDO C. Monitinss'ran, citizens of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful l3illiard-Cue-Chalking Device, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to billiard cue chalking devices, and the objects of our invention are: first, to provide a device cf this class by means of which the tip of the billiard cue may be thoroughly chalked or covered with chalk, irrespective of the thickness "or roundness of the tip of the cue; second, to provide a container for billiard cue chalk in which a portion of the container may be easily removed as the chalk is worn down by the one tip when chalking the same, thus preventing the container from interfering with the chalking operation of the billiard cue third, to provide a device of this class in which the width or diameter of the chalk is substantially the width or diameter of the cue at the tip so that a deep hole cannot be made inthe chalk by any one cue and prevent the chalking of the tip of a slightly larger diameter of cue, and will be substantially worn down uniformly over its whole area; fourth, to provide a container for a device of this class Which is reducible in height as desired and composed "of a plurality of readily detachable sections; fifth, to provide a device of this class in which the chalk will not soil anything with which it comes in contact, or will not break up and soil the rugs, floor or billiard table; sixth, to provide a novelly constructed device of this class, and seventh, to provide a device of this class which is very simple and particularly economical of construction, durable, practical, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.

l/Vith these and oth r objects in view as will appear hereinafter, our invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will he hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appendedclaims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this application, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of our device taken from the top and side thereof;

Fig. 2 is a sectional elevational view there of taken through 2-2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a reduced, perspective View thereof shown supported in one hand and one of the sections of the container being removed by the other hand.

Like characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.

The container section members'l and 2, adhesive material 3, and the chalk material 4-, constitute the principal parts and portions of our billiard cue chalking device.

The container section members 1 and 2 are preferably made of a substantially thick paper material or some other semi-flexible, sheet material. The container section members 1, preferably two or three in number, form the base of the container and are secured together by the adhesivematerial 3. The container section members 2 form the side walls of the container and are provided with openings 2 in the middle portions thereof for the reception of the chalk ma terial. Said container section members 2 are also superimposed over'each other and secured together by the adhesive material 3 interposed between the various layers and are'thus secured in a'similar manner to the lower container section members 1. The chalk material'i, preferably made of chalk or' semi-abrasive material, is positioned or molded in the recesses formed by the open ings 2 of the members 2 and secured in position by the adhesive material 3, as indicated by 3* in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

As the chalk material is worn down by chalking the tin of the billiard cue, the uppermost section members are consecutively removed, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings hat the side walls formed by said section members 2 will not interfere or prevent the cue from engaging the chalk material.

Though we have shown and described :1 particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, we do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of our invention, the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

It is obvious from this construction hat there is provided a billiard chalking device which will permit thorough chalking of the tips of billiard cues, irrespective of their varying diameters or roundness of tip; that there'is provided a device of this class in which the chalk is substantially the diametel 01 width of the one tip, and that chalking a' one of a small diameter will'not wear a deep hole in the chalk, and thus prevents the defective chalking oi? the tip of a one of slightly larger diameter; that there is provided a device of this class in which the container for the chalk may be easily reduced in size and which is composed of a plural ity of superimposed section members, adhesively secured together; that there is provided a novelly constructed device oi this class, and that there is provided a device of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, practical, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a billiard cue chalking device a base member and a plurality of superin'iposed. side wall, section members, adhesively secured together and. to said base member.

2. In a billiard cue chalking device a base member, a plurality o1 superil'nposed, side wall, section members, adhesively secured together and to said base member, and a chalk material of substantially the size of a billiard cue tip positioned in the middle portion of said section members.

3. In a billiard cue chalking device a plurality of superimposed section members adhesively and detachably secured together, provided with an opening in the middle portions thereof. adapted for billiard cue chalk.

4. In a billiard cue chalking device a plurality of superimposed section members adhesively and detachably secured together, provided with an opening in the middle portions thereof, and billiard cue chalk mate; rial positioned in the. opening of said section members and supported thereby.

5. In a billiard cue chalking device a cylindrically shaped chalk inember'o'f substantially the diameter of a billiard one tip, and a reducible casing for said chalk member.

6. In a billiard cue chalking device a cylindrically shaped chalk member of substantially the diameter of a billiard one tip, and a substantially cube shape reducible casing for said chalk member, said casing consisting of a plurality of superimposed section members adhesively secured together.

7. In a billiard cue chalking device a cylindrically shaped chalk member of substantially the diameter of a billiard cue tip, and a reducible casing for said chalk member, said casing consisting of a plurality of superimposed, semi-flexible layers, readily detachable from each other. f

'8. In a billiard cue chalking device a base member, a plurality of superimposed layers of flexible material, provided with. circular openings in the middle portion thereof, and an adhesive material positioned between the various layers of said flexible material and said base member for securing the same together.

9. In a billiard cue chalking device a'tace member, a plurality of superimposed layers of flexible material, provided with circular openings in the middle portion thereof, said openings being substantially the diameter of a billiard cue tip, and a chalk material positioned in the circular openings of layers and supported thereby.
