it seats if an attempt is made to force anything into the bottle, thereby preventing unscrupulous dealers from refilling the bottle after it has been emptied.
A bottle of the kind stated is disclosed in Patent No. 1,227,68, dated May 29 and the present invention has for its 1917, object to devise certain improvements in the valve mechanism disclosed in this patent,
as will be pointed out in the detailed description appearing hereinafter, whereby the nonrefillable feature is rendered more eiiicient and reliable in action.

The grooves 22 and 24rare not in alinement but are offset laterally relative to each other. The guard seats slidably in the tube' 12, and it effectually prevents the insertion of a wire or other device for holding the valve 15 off its seat, thus frustrating attempts to refill the bottle. The guard eX- tends completely across the tube 12 and is in contact with the interior surface of the latter, which, together with the non-alining relation of the grooves 22 and 2a makes it impossible to get a wire or other device past the guard for disabling the valve 15.
lVhen the valve 15 is unseated and the bottle is inverted, the liquid can freely pass the guard 19, the flow being by the way of the grooves 22, 21, 24 and 25. Above the guard, the tube l2 has an intei'nal shoulder 26 produced by here reducing the diameter of the tube, whereby the guard is prevented from slipping out of the tube.
The tube 12 is held in place within the bottle neck 10 by a cap 27, with a gasket 28 interposed between the saine and the edge of the bottle mouth. A gasket 29 is also interposed between the interior surface of the neck 10 and the outside of the tube, at its upper end.
I claim:
1. The combination with the neck of a bottle, of a pouring tube mounted therein,
a valve seat at the inner end of the tube, a valve in the tube adapted to engage said seat and provided With an upstanding stem, and a valve guard slidably mounted in the tube and loosely seated on the upper end of the valve stem, said guard having transverse grooves in its top and an external encircling groovein its side, and also side grooves extending from the bottom of the guard to Jthe encircling` grooves and from the latter groove to the transverse grooves in the top of the guard, the irst mentioned side grooves being out of alinement With the second mentioned side grooves, and a cap provided on the bottle mouth for securing the tube in place Within the bottle neck, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination With the neck 'of a bottle, of a pouring tube mounted therein, a valve seat at the inner end of the tube, a valve in the tubo adapted to engage said seat and provided with an upstanding stern, and a valve guard slidably mounted in the tube and loosely seated on the upper end of the valve stem, said guard having transverse grooves in its top and an external encircling groove in its side, and also side grooves extending from the bottom olf the guard to the encircling groove and from the latter groove to the transverse grooves in the top of the guard, the first mentioned side grooves being out of alinement with the second mentioned side grooves, the aforesaid tube having an internal shoulder below which theguard is located,and an external groove at its upper end portion and a gasket interposed therein and extending above the edge of thc bottle mouth, and aV cap provided on the bottle mouth With said gasket interposed between said cap and the edge of said bottle mouth for holding the said tube in place Within said bottle neck, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
